'I Never Knew My Eyebrows Could Look This Good Until I Tried This Trend'

I’m highly protective of my eyebrows.I was, once upon a time, blessed with thick, furry arches that an aunt of mine expertly tweezed thin in the name of early 2000s beauty. I was 12. I loved them then, but some patches never grew back. That’s why I’ve diligently applied castor oil and laid off waxing and threading appointments for good, trusting only myself to conservatively pluck. Even microblading didn’t work for me—and was incredibly painful to boot. So, here I am, still spending more than 10-15 minutes every morning using a brow pencils, powders, and gels.

In need of a time-saving solution, I turned to Clementina Richardson of Envious Lashes, who is a celebrity lash expert but also offers brow tinting and the biggest new trend, brow lamination. I opted for lamination, which includes a tint. Here’s what you need to know about the semi-temporary solution for thicker brows.

A brow tint will last you about one month.

“The tint will last until your brows start to naturally shed, which can be anywhere from three to six weeks depending on the cycle of your natural hair growth,” Richardson says of the treatment ($65 at Envious Lashes). “Once your brows grow out, you will lose the color.” She describes the dye used as a “permanent dye specifically formulated for the face.” The tint deposits both on the top layer of your skin and on the brow hairs.

Avoid getting them wet for 24 hours.

To ensure your tint will last as long as possible, avoid getting them wet for the first day. Avoid rubbing the eye area, and don’t apply harsh cleansers or exfoliators either. Richardson adds, “Avoid using any oil-based facial products. The tint will rub off.”

After the dye is applied, it is removed with a tissue to leave a tint behind.

A tint is even better when paired with a keratin treatment.

Like a Brazilian Blowout for your hair, a keratin treatment can smooth down the texture of the brow hairs and allow them to be brushed flat to cover more surface area and appear thicker. Envious Lashes claims brows will appear 1/3 to double their natural volume. “It’s much less invasive than microblading, and gives you shiny, feathery, flawless results. A lifted brow gives you a more youthful look and lifts the face upwards,” Richardson says. “I fell in love with the bold, feathery brows that graced the runways this past season.I wanted to take that look and make it wearable for every day and suitable for women of all ages and skin tones.”

One thing to note is that, if you’ve never done a keratin treatment on your brows before, it takes a little adjustment. My hairs were so malleable and seemed permanently gelled down in a way I didn’t love at first. However, after the first day I learned I could use a spoolie to brush them up then use the pointed end to shape them more precisely and easily than I ever have before. One week in, my brows regained some of their fluffiness back while maintaining the ability to be brushed in one direction.

After! Look how all the brows look fuller and smoothly go in one direction.

      The whole process 45 minutes.

The majority of the time is spent on the straightening keratin treatment, which takes about 20 minutes including the setting solution. “The natural way the brows grow is usually on a side angle. The keratin process allows the natural hairs to reach their full potential in an upward direction,” Richardson says. Once you’re done, you look like you’ve just added brow powder—no products required.
