Sharon Stone, 61, on embracing her age and why she thinks 'Basic Instinct’ wouldn’t be made today

Fox News Flash top entertainment and celebrity headlines for Oct. 21 are here. Check out what’s clicking today in entertainment.

Sharon Stone is opening up about the body-shaming she faced early on in her career and how she's embracing her age today.

As with many women living in the spotlight, Stone, 61, found herself the constant subject of criticism when it came to her body.

"When I was younger, everybody was telling me what was wrong with my body — too this, too that," Stone told Allure for the magazine's October issue, which she graces the cover of.

She continued: "When I got on ‘Basic Instinct,’ they hired a makeup artist that put on pounds of makeup every day, and every day I went to my trailer and took the makeup off. But I wasn’t allowed to choose my makeup artist, nor was my name [above the title] on the poster.”

Eventually, Stone "started to understand that I was going to go for being more like a European woman who got more beautiful with age and who could understand that women are more beautiful than girls because they know something."

Stone also revealed that her favorite part of her life was her 40s because she could focus on her family.

“I couldn’t work because women, once they got to be 40, were not given jobs in Hollywood. I was a mom with three beautiful little boys," she explained. “I was recovering from a massive brain injury, and I was in custody court constantly over my oldest child.”

“It was my period of the biggest change, but the period where I thought I was the most beautiful," she added.

Another reveal from the story: Stone doesn't think that "Basic Instinct," her biggest hit, could have been made today.

“I think ‘Basic Instinct’ was made at the exact right moment in history because it captured all our fears and doubts and the moment of change of power for women,” she said. “I doubt that it would have any form of the sensationalism it had at the time.”

Stone most recently appeared in Netflix's "The Laundromat," and is set to star in "Ratched," also a Netflix property.

TMZ’s Van Lathan fired after newsroom spat with Michael Babcock

If only TMZ had been there to film it!

Page Six is told that veteran TMZ personality Van Lathan has been fired after getting into a nasty confrontation with fellow star, Michael Babcock.

We’re told that the pair appeared on the site’s online show “TMZ Live” together about a week and a half ago and had some kind of disagreement. The on-air face-off has been edited out, we’re told, but sources say they were sparring over politics, which has increasingly come between them. Lathan famously went head-to-head with Kanye West last year over the rapper’s claims that slavery was “a choice.” Meanwhile, we’re told Babcock leans to the right.

Sources say that Lathan confronted Babcock in the newsroom after the segment and told him there would be trouble if he “ever embarrassed [Lathan] like that again.” Insiders say Lathan met with the site’s attorneys and he was suspended. He was dismissed a few days later, we’re told.

An insider defended Lathan — who also hosts the “Red Pill” podcast — saying that in the site’s high-pressure newsroom, staffers are often pitted against each other for the sake of making good TV. “Van’s not mean-spirited. Anything that happened is a product of that environment,” said an insider.

Sources also said that Lathan had been “a huge part” of the success of TMZ over the past few years and they were stunned he had been fired over the incident.

When reached for comment, Lathan declined to comment without speaking to an attorney, Babcock hung up on us, and TMZ didn’t get back to us.

Larsa Pippen Claps Back After Being Called a Spotlight Seeking Groupie

The girls’ trip may be over, but the drama is just beginning.

On Sunday’s brand-new episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kourtney Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian participated in a special getaway with their close friends.

During the vacation, however, fans noticed Larsa Pippen‘s tense discussion with Poosh COO Sarah Howard. “Who cares? It’s not our fault. It’s not our problem,” she shared after Sarah saw a woman crying in a bathroom. “I’m not trying to get to the bathroom and get in someone’s business.”

Fans were quick to comment on Larsa’s behavior. In fact, some opinions caused the model to defend herself.

“I’m sorry but I’m the caring friend. If I see someone crying, I’ll be the first to ask them if they are ok,” one user shared on HollywoodUnlocked’s Instagram.

Larsa responded, “Right a friend!!! If I knew them I would have. They were arguing all night. Like I’m not in Turks to counsel anyone I don’t know. And we were all drinking so who knows how the night could have ended. “

And when one user called Larsa a “spotlight seeking groupie” who has run to the press for other stories, Kourtney’s close friend didn’t stay silent.

“Actually babe, I’m the one who tried to stop the stories by telling my friends what was going down. They also have called me, told me things about my situation and that’s what friends do!!! But I’m in another country watching a couple fight all night long like what does that have to do with us?” she replied.  We’re drinking, enjoying my friend’s bday trip. The house I wanted us to go to was my longtime friend’s house.”

After the episode ended, Larsa tried to clarify where she was coming from during the disagreement.

“I didn’t mean to be dismissive to Sarah,” she wrote on Twitter. “I just didn’t think we should be getting involved in any type of domestic situation when we’re out of the country #KUWTK.”

Khloe also tweeted, “I know that @LarsaPippen is a great friend to Kourt and she has a great heart. Sarah and her are simply different people. But both are good souls #KUWTK.”

Gotta love a girls’ trip!

Katherine Ryan says boyfriend saved her Netflix scripts from masked intruder

Comedian Katherine Ryan said her boyfriend fought off a masked intruder at their London home — saving the scripts to her upcoming Netflix show that were stored on a laptop, according to reports.

Ryan, 36, posted a since-deleted clip of police at her home to her Instagram story over the weekend.

“Cool to be robbed tonight by a masked man in our home,” she wrote, according to the BBC.

In another Instagram story, the Canadian-born comic said her boyfriend and childhood sweetheart Bobby Kootstra swiftly jumped into action.

“This is why I love Bobby K [Kootstra],” she wrote in a clip that shows drops of blood on the laptop, according to the BBC. “He got in a fight and wrestled back my Netflix series, all my scripts.”

The laptop contained the scripts to Ryan’s upcoming comedy on the streaming service, “The Duchess,” which she’s written and will star in, Variety reported.

But the crook didn’t leave empty-handed, making off with a ring and other pieces of jewelry, she said.

“Is there a way to circulate this foreshadowing ring around pawn shops that the masked man stole before he was tackled into the street?” Ryan tweeted.

In another, still-available Instagram story, she showed a photo of some earrings that were stolen.

“He did get these as well, which isn’t a big deal as it’s all just STUFF but might help catch him through pawn shop CCTV or whatever,” she wrote.

In other posts, she said she’s had restless nights after the burglary and that she wants to get a German Shepherd because her small dogs were apparently “asleep at the wheel” when the intruder entered, according to the BBC.

Ryan was reunited with Kootstra by chance in her hometown of Sarnia, west of Toronto, as she filmed for the BBC series “Who Do You Think You Are?” according to the network.

Ryan’s salvaged script for “The Duchess” tells the story of a “fashionably disruptive single mom,” according to Radio Times.

Ryan is not new to Netflix — she has filmed stand-up specials “In Trouble” and “Glitter Room” and appeared alongside Jimmy Carr in “The Fix.”

Meghan Markle on Royal Life: “It’s Not Enough to Just Survive”

In ITV’s new documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, got vulnerable when speaking about the intense media scrutiny she’s experienced ever since she married into the royal family.

Of the British tabloids’ treatment of her, she told ITV’s Tom Bradby, “I never thought that this would be easy, but I thought it would be fair and that’s the part that’s really hard to reconcile.”

She began by saying, “I’ve said for a long time to H—that’s what I call him—it’s not enough to just survive something, right? That’s not the point of life. You’ve got to thrive, you’ve got to feel happy. I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a stiff upper lip. I tried, I really tried. But I think that what that does internally is probably really damaging.”

After Bradby noted that the wealth and status associated with her and the royal family inevitably goes hand in hand with media attention, Meghan responded, “I think the grass is always greener. You have no idea. It is really hard to understand what it’s like. The good thing is that I have got my baby and I have got my husband and they are the best.”

In the same interview, Meghan said that her British friends had warned her against marrying Prince Harry. “When I first met Harry, my friends were so excited. My U.S. friends were happy because I was happy,” the duchess said. “But my British friends, they were sure he was lovely, but they said I shouldn’t do it because, ‘The British tabloids will destroy your life.'”

Harry & Meghan: An African Journey will air in the United States on Wednesday, October 23, at 10 p.m. ET, on ABC.

Prince Harry Comments on Rumored Rift With William

“We are certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him,” the royal said of his brother.

Prince Harry has addressed the rumors of a rift between him and his brother, Prince William.

In ITV’s new documentary "Harry & Meghan: An African Journey" — which documents the couple’s recent tour of the continent — the Duke of Sussex, 35, was asked about how much of the speculation of problems with his brother are "true."

Harry first started to laugh and then began, "Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure it is under, inevitably stuff happens."

"But we’re brothers, we will always be brothers," he continued. "We are certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him and, as I know, he will always be there for me."

"We don’t see as much as we used to because we’re so busy but I love him dearly," he expressed, adding that the "majority of stuff is created out of nothing."

Harry concluded, "As brothers, you know, you have good days, you have bad days."

Although Kensington Palace has yet to publicly comment on the matter, a source told BBC William is "worried" about his brother and his wife Meghan Markle and hopes they "are alright."

The Palace source also added that there was a view the couple were "in a fragile place" following the documentary, which aired in the UK Sunday and is set to air Wednesday in the US.

There has been widespread concern for Meghan after a preview clip for the documentary aired on Friday. In the video, the Duchess of Sussex got candid with ITV reporter Tom Bradby about the challenges that come with being in the spotlight.

While his question wasn’t shown in the clip, it appeared Bradby first asked Markle if she’s okay, a question she really seemed to appreciate.

"Look any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable, and so that was made really challenging and then when you have a newborn … and especially as a woman, it’s really, it’s a lot," she said. "So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed, it’s … well, I guess … and also thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I’m okay, but it’s, uh, it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes."

Bradby followed up that answer by asking her to clarify. "And the answer is? Would it be fair to say, ‘Not really ok,’ as in it’s really been a struggle??" he asked. "Yes," she replied.

Meghan and Harry, who welcomed son Archie earlier this year, have been battling the media for some time now.

Earlier this month, Harry issued a lengthy statement in support of his wife, calling out "relentless propaganda" she’s been a victim of. Saying she’s been subject to "a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son," Harry said that while they’ve "continued to put on a brave face — as so many of you can relate to" he could not "begin to describe how painful it has been."

"I have been a silent witness to her private suffering for too long. To stand back and do nothing would be contrary to everything we believe in," he said, before the two took legal action against a few specific British outlets.

Camila Cabello Fires Back With Emphatic Response Amidst Rumors She & Shawn Mendes Broke Up

Camila Cabello is so not about the drama! The singer took to her Instagram story to squash rumors that she and Shawn Mendes had broken up with a cheeky response.

Camila Cabello, 22, is taking rumors that she and Shawn Mendes, 21, broke up with a bit of humor. The “Havana” singer took to her Instagram Story on Oct. 20 and called out a publication running a story that the pair had gone their separate ways. In the post, Camila took a screen shot of the outlet, on snapchat, leading with the headline “Proof Shawn and Camila Are Broken Up.” The “Never Be the Same” songstress captioned the snap with, “Well when THE F**K were you gonna tell me @shawnmendes.” Yikes! Of course, it was all in jest, as Camila and Shawn are still going strong.

The couple shut down rumors days before on Oct. 19 when Shawn posted a super romantic pic of the “Señorita” collaborators. In the photo, Camila gave Shawn a kiss on the cheek as the “In My Blood” singer lovingly wrapped his arm around his lady. The caption of the post was short and sweet, with Shawn leaving a simple black heart, tagging New York as the location. Camila was quick to comment on the adorable post, leaving four arrow-through-heart emojis. Clearly, these two were staving off any rumors that they were heading for a split.

Rumors started swirling that the duo was breaking up after Shawn deleted a hilarious video from his Instagram account of the pair kissing — well, sort of. The video was clearly a joke, as Camila proceeded to basically lick Shawn’s face throughout the clip! Some followers, who weren’t in on the joke, didn’t exactly get it. Once it was deleted, fans began to speculate that the duo were headed for a split. But the pair has been going strong for months.

Camila even gushed about her man with ITV’s Lorraine on Oct. 7, saying, “I’m so happy. I’ve known him for such a long time and I don’t know, he just feels like home to me. Yeah, I’m really happy.” Shawn has even been a major inspiration for Camila, especially when it comes to her upcoming album. “It was inspired by…I was in my first serious relationship at the beginning of this album,” Camila said, referencing her relationship with Shawn. “That’s what inspired Romance and it being about falling in love. All of the stories are just my life and what’s happened the last two years.” After another day of fending off rumors, it seems like Camila and Shawn’s romance is better than ever!

Apprentice star says show bosses sabotage tasks and "emotionally abuse" hopefuls

A former Apprentice star has made some shocking claims about the way candidates are treated on the show.

Alexsandra King spoke out during an inquest into the way reality TV contestants.

She said that the hopefuls on The Apprentice are intentionally not fed properly and barely have time to sleep.

She also claimed the producers deliberately sabotage the tasks to make things harder for the candidates.

The terrible treatment during filming drove Aleksandra, 41, to quit the show in 2016.

The Daily Star reported on a letter Aleksandra wrote to to MPs on the the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport committee’s inquiry.

They are investigating reality TV following the death of construction worker Steve Dymond, 63, who failed a lie detector test on The Jeremy Kyle Show and reportedly struggled to deal with the fallout from the show.

Aleksandra spoke about a task where her team were selling candy, and they checked on their stock before leaving it with producers.

She said: “Upon returning, we were shocked to see that not only was there stock missing but that our candy sticks were also cracked.

“I was conscious this would damage my reputation and addressed it with production at the time stating that I know what they did.”

She also said that the candidates have irregular meals and barely get any sleep with long hours and early wakeup calls.

This, she claims, "ensures candidates are physically and mentally weakened".

Aleksandra also slammed producers for “not allowing candidates to speak even to each other for many hours during and after tasks so that feelings and emotions are stored for the camera.”

She added: “By the time I made the decision to leave the show I was at the end of my line.

“I am happy to support this committee in ensuring that future candidates do not become victims of emotional abuse at the expense of ‘entertainment’.”

Rebecca Jeffrey, who appeared on the show in the same year as Aleksandra, has also spoken of the impact it's had on her mental health.

“Losing your autonomy for up to six weeks during which you have very limited contact with your support network, friends and family, can make resettling back into your normal life immediately afterwards very strange", she said.

Personally I found that around three months after the ‘high’ of The Apprentice I was still trying to deal with the impact.”

MirrorOnline has reached out to the BBC's representatives for comment.

Lea Michele: Where Is the Former 'Glee' Star Now?

Lea Michele is best known from her role on the award-winning and very popular television series Glee. There, she played the sometimes overbearing but ultimately lovable Rachel Berry, who the show follows as she rises from a high school glee club star to an aspiring artist trying to make it in New York City.

The show debuted more than ten years ago, and it aired its final season in 2015.

What has the leading lady of the phenomenal show been up to since? Quite a bit! Take a closer look at her professional and personal life and what plans she has in store for fans.

She overcame tragedy in her love life to secure a happily ever after

One of the most tragic moments in the Glee world came when actor Cory Monteith died in 2013. He played the longtime love interest of Michele’s character on the show, Finn Hudson.

In real life, Monteith and Michele were a passionate couple who fans idolized and held up against their on-screen counterparts. When news of Monteith’s unexpected death hit, Michele was hyperaware of how her actions would be scrutinized from the fans who loved the couple:

“Now that I am in this position, you can choose to rise, and that’s what I’m going to try to do,” she told Elle Magazine.

“I know that Cory would want nothing more than for me to take this situation and use it to help people. I don’t know if I will. I don’t know how.”

While she was mourning, Michele pushed back some of her own projects and made some space for herself to find her next steps.

Eventually, she found her way into a new relationship with Zandy Reich. In March of this year, the pair got married, and Michele opened up about how amazing it is to be the wife of her “best friend.”

She has built a successful singing career

As her time on Glee came to an end, Michele started working hard at her solo music career. She released a solo album called Louder in 2014 and another called Places in 2017.

Michele explained that Places was a better representation of who she was and what she wanted her art to be. Louder, her first album, was muddied by the grief of losing Monteith and of the struggle to untangle herself from the identity she had forged as Rachel Berry:

“I was singing 10 songs a week for Glee in the studio, from Salt N Pepa to Kelly Clarkson to Celine Dion [covers]. When it came time for me to make my own album, I think it was a little clouded for me in terms of wanting to figure out what my own sound was. And it was also clouded by a big tragedy that had happened to me, in the midst of making that album. And you hear that in that album — you hear the darkness of what was going on in my life. I don’t think there is a consistency to the record that I was hoping for, but that’s life,” Michele explained.

Places gave her a chance to really come into her own as an artist and portray herself to the world without the baggage of her fictitious character or her real-life tragedy weighing her down.

Now she’s making another dream come true as she works on a Christmas album just in time for the 2019 holidays.

Her journey to health has been a big focus

In addition to finding herself and getting more comfortable with a voice of her own, Michele has also been a vocal proponent for health and wellness.

She has made her fitness and health journey a central part of her public persona and frequently posts on social media about getting outside to do hikes and take in the fresh air.

Her fitness tips are very practical and down to earth and center on the principle of being kind and supportive of yourself.

It’s been a decade since Michele broke into the public eye in a huge way, but the star has since worked to use the platform from her time on Glee to make a name for herself professionally and a personal life she loves as well.
