Former Countdown presenter Carol Vorderman has taken to Instagram to respond after being inundated with support following her son’s appearance on This Morning. Carol’s son Cameron made his debut on the ITV show to talk to presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about overcoming his severe learning difficulties, after recently graduating from university with a Masters degree, overcoming “years of bullying and struggles”. Overcome with emotion, Carol thanked her fans for the “outpouring of love” that had been shown towards her son as she posted a series of heartwarming pictures from the ITV studios.
And thank you for the outpouring of love for my baby boy
Posting in view of her 171,000 followers, the mathematician detailed the “heartbreaking” response to their chat alongside a sweet snap of Cameron sitting on the sofa next to Holly and Phil earlier today.
She wrote: “Cameron on @thismorning with @hollywilloughby and schofe….talking about his severe learning difficulties and how he has taught himself strategies to overcome them.”
The proud mum went on to gush over her son after he recently graduated from university.
“Now with a first class honours degree and also a Masters degree he starts a job as a 3D animator next week,” Carol penned.
She went on: “I’m so so so proud of him after years of bullying and struggles.
“What was heartbreaking was the level and number of stories from parents who rang or messaged in about other children going through the same with little support educationally.
“I know the pain and I’m determined now to hold organisations to account,” Carol added.
The TV personality previously revealed that Cameron suffered from severe dyslexia, ADD and ADHD at a young age.
She also spoke about the “heartbreaking” moment Cameron’s former headteacher branded him “unteachable” and said he couldn’t stay on at school in a piece for the Daily Mail.
Continuing her post, Carol wrote: “These children don’t fit into a system designed for others….but they have beautiful minds….we need them in our world to think outside of the box.
“Nearly half of self made business people have learning difficulties.
“Many geniuses in all walks of life have the same,” she explained.
Carol penned: “Once they have made it their strength their resilience to ‘failure’ is immense, very little can harm them.
“I’m determined to do something now and help. Please watch this space.
“And thank you for the outpouring of love for my baby boy (now 6’5″),” the star ended her post.
The proud mum also posted two behind-the-scenes snaps of herself with Cameron, who at 6’5″ towered over his mum.
Taking to the comments, the star’s followers praised her and Cameron for their important interview on the ITV show.
Emma Jo wrote: “I started today feeling sadder than I’ve ever felt at the realisation of what the future may hold for my son. I’m now feeling a little more hopeful. Thank you.”
While Toby Crozier penned: “He’s a credit to you. What a star.”
