Deborah James scared to sleep after move to end-of-life care amid cancer

Dame Deborah James has confessed she's too afraid to sleep two weeks after announcing she's receiving end-of-life care at her parents' house in Woking, Surrey.

The 40 year old, who has been courageously battling bowel cancer for five years, shared last week that her body is "just not playing ball" in a heartbreaking farewell post.

Since then, she's been keeping busy raising awareness for cancer through fundraising, which has already reached £6.5million.

Now, Deborah has shared an update on her health, explaining that the "truth is, I don’t know how long I’ve got left," adding that she feels exhausted.

“I don’t feel like I’m on my deathbed," she insisted to The Sun. “I’m not planning on dying anytime soon but it’s just so unpredictable."

Despite this, she finds it difficult to fall asleep as she's afraid of what might happen as she continued: "I’m scared to fall asleep and that’s one of the biggest reasons I’m so tired. I am scared to go to sleep.”

Deborah shared that she's been in some discomfort rather than pain over the past weekend. She joked: "It’s ironic, I’ve spent the last five years talking about poo, and breaking the poo taboo. It’s typical I suffer with a s*** stomach now."

Speaking about her family, she shared that the "pressure on them at the moment is huge" as she's unable to do much without their help.

“I think my family are knackered, they have all been incredible – going above and beyond to look after me and nurse me," she said.

She added that she's doing everything in her power to prevent her children Eloise, 12, and Hugo, 14, who she shares with husband Sebastian, from seeing her in "distress".

In addition to creating a fundraiser through her JustGiving page, Deborah has launched a clothing collection with In The Style, with a charity T-shirt told has already sold out and raised £75,000.

Meanwhile, the star recently had her dreams come true as she was made into a Lego character.

The mum-of-two took to Instagram on Tuesday 24 May to share the exciting news as she posed alongside her “mini me”.

Beaming next to the Lego version of her in a snap, Deborah wrote alongside it: “All my Lego dreams have come true!!!!

“I adore Lego. @cj_brough the legend that she is told the chief fairy builder at @lego HQ just how much of a fan I was. And today meet mini me! But my head comes off my hands move, I mean we are wearing matching t-shirts!! Lego I love you!!”

In the photo, both Deborah and the Lego version of her are wearing tees that read “rebellious hope”.
