Eamonn Holmes, 61, has reacted to one of his 1million Twitter followers after they encouraged him and wife Ruth Langsford, 61, to “take over” Good Morning Britain after they finish up their summer hosting duties on This Morning. The Irish broadcaster appeared to be thrilled that he and Ruth had been suggested to become the new hosts of the early morning ITV show, as he shared grinning face emojis in response.
The fan had typed: “When @RuthieeL and @EamonnHolmes time is up on #ThisMorning they can take over #GMB sorted!”
Eamonn replied with grinning face and smiling eye emojis, as he shared his appreciation for the compliment.
Others also weighed in and also encouraged the couple to appear on GMB, which has had a number of stand-in hosts since anchor Piers Morgan stepped down in March.
One said: “I would Eamonn & Ruth were on every day, they make This Morning watchable.”
Another replied: “Cannot see either of them wanting to get up so early again, been there and done it. I just want to see them get back a regular weekly slot on This Morning.”
A third commented: “Definitely… the best presenters by far.”
Good Morning Britain airs from 6am until 9am weekdays on ITV and was hosted by Ranvir Singh and Richard Bacon this morning.
Eamonn and Ruth are hosting This Morning on the network until September, while regular hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby take time off for their summer holidays.
The dad-of-four addressed his fans a couple of weeks ago and thanked them for their support during his and Ruth’s first week back on the show.
Talking to the camera, whilst on the backseat of a chauffeur-driven car, he said: “Hello there, good morning to you. I’m on my way to work today and it’s a gorgeous sunny day.
“And a gorgeous sunny day makes me feel very happy, mostly very happy that we are back on This Morning this week, and we’d just like to thank everybody who has made it such a pleasure for Ruth and I in welcoming us back.
“So, after today, it will be one week gone, six more to go. And we can’t guarantee the weather will be there, like this, throughout the run, but we certainly will be, and what we need is your company.

“So, however your Friday shapes up, I hope it’s a good one, I hope the sun shines on you over the weekend and you get to enjoy it.”
He finished the video by adding: “Thanks for watching, see you from 10 o’clock this morning and indeed next week, for the next six weeks after that!”
Fans loved the clip, but many asked why he was travelling alone.
“Lovely having you back. You and Ruth have such great banter. Do you and Ruth travel separately?” one asked.
Indeed, the couple do commute separately, with Ruth explaining the reason to Platinum Magazine last year. “We tried going together once and it was an absolute nightmare because he made me half an hour late,” Ruth revealed at the time.
“He was saying, ‘What do you need to be in at 8am for?’ He’s a ship-up-10-minutes-before kind of guy. That’s where we are absolutely on opposite ends of the scale.”
Fans were happy to welcome back the pair who used to regularly co-host the show until they were replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary last year.
One said: “#ThisMorning goes back to being a grown-up show when Ruth and Eamonn are on…”
A second replied: “@EamonnHolmes you created TV Gold with Dr Khan on This Morning. Your deadpan face and his initial bewilderment followed by “Ruth” was classic. Had to rewind and watch it several times it was so funny. Classic Eamonn at his best. What a laugh. Just what the Dr ordered. #Ruthgate.”
