Brave Kate Garraway returned to Good Morning Britain today after taking a four month break to be by her husband's side while he battled coronavirus.

Derek Draper, 52, was admitted to hospital in March and he was so poorly that doctors made the decision to put him in a coma.

Overwhelmed by her colleagues welcoming her back, the 53-year-old said: "Don't be too nice because I'll get emotional, just go back to being rude."

Co-presenter Ben Shephard, who has now taken over the show with Kate while Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid take a break, said: "I've got a big smile on my face because she's back. It's lovely to see you because nothing's gone wrong yet…"

Laughing Kate replied: "Well, you say that, but quite a lot has gone wrong this morning already.

"The car to pick me up, didn't show up. I came into work and a very senior person had come into work early to make sure my computer worked because I'm legendary for being useless at computers.

"Having been away for three months the chances are no one could even find it – and just as I arrived it went into a two-hour update."

Posting a snap of herself wearing a mask in the car as she headed to the GMB studios today, Kate wrote on Instagram: "Well here we go – back on @gmb with @benshephardofficial from 6 am – very much looking forward to seeing you all."

Speaking about wearing a mask, Kate said: "I put a mask on in the car this morning after hearing what people are saying about enclosed spaces."

Kate also revealed that David Beckham had messaged her on Instagram to find out if there was anything he could do to help her during this very difficult time.

Cheekily, Kate joked that his ‘wife’s wardrobe’ would be appreciated.

Last week, Kate returned to GMB to talk to Piers and Susanna about Derek's ongoing treatment and gave an update on his health.

She said: "Wonderfully his eyes are opening but we have no real knowledge of what he can see and feel and hear."

Kate added: "He's been very very sick, but it's a new disease, there's no data, so what they can say is it's great he's here. There's flickers of hope, his lungs are starting to recover, his kidneys are doing better, his liver, but they don't know how much better he can get."
