Smash Mouth, The Voice Of Reason, Thinks Straight Pride Parades Are Stupid
Smash Mouth is not here for a straight pride parade and took to Twitter to tell the straight pride parade dudes to get fucked, which if they did, they probably wouldn’t be organizing a straight pride parade. If you want to watch a straight pride parade, just sit in the parking lot of a Dave & Busters at closing time, but a tiny group of straight men in Boston have organized a Straight Pride Parade, and Smash Mouth, among many, isn’t for it. This is a particular blow because I bet that whoever is organizing the potential Boston Straight Pride Parade had Smash Mouth as one of their dream bands. Imagine the float organizer’s face when they learn “All Star” can’t be chanted endlessly. Though I guess it just added more room for House of Pain’s Jump Around.
Here’s Smash Mouth’s short, but sweet, response to The First Annual AXE Body Spray Strut-A-Thon:
It looks like a straight pride parade may or may happen depending on if the straights can get the permits pulled on time. One of this stupid event’s organizers, Mark Sahady (you can’t spell Sahady without SHADY), says that they’re working with the city to get permits and they plan to file a discrimination complaint if their parade isn’t approved. Mayor Marty Walsh did encourage everyone to celebrate pride… but LGBTQ Pride. via HuffPo
A spokesperson at the Boston mayor’s press office said the group planning to host the “straight pride” parade has been in contact with city officials, but has not yet received the permits it would need for the event.
Meanwhile, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh released a statement supporting the city’s LGBTQ community and its upcoming pride events.
“Every year Boston hosts our annual Pride Week, where our city comes together to celebrate the diversity, strength and acceptance of our LGBTQ community,” Walsh said. “This is a special week that represents Boston’s values of love and inclusion, which are unwavering. I encourage everyone to join us in celebration this Saturday for the Pride Parade and in the fight for progress and equality for all.”
Of course, Twitter has thoughts:
Other people pointed out the pointlessness of a straight pride parade as Pride was created out of a want to get the same rights as straight people. Now straight people want to celebrate having all these rights since forever?!
Actually a straight pride parade may be a genius idea for women who are dating straight men. It’s like men going to a red flag parade. Imagine being on a Tinder date with a guy who tells you he spent his weekend at a straight pride parade?! And look I’m not saying that all men who would go to a straight pride parade are psychopaths. I’m just saying they are not NOT psychopaths. So it may be a good thing to let these messes “out” themselves.
