The Verve Return To Billboard Charts After Settling Royalty Dispute

The Verve‘s “Bitter Sweet Symphony” has returned to Billboard‘s charts after a songwriting royalty dispute was recently settled.

“Bitter Sweet Symphony” entered the Hot Rock Songs chart dated June 8 at No. 13.

The song had 2.5 million U.S. streams in the week ending May 30, Nielsen Music data shows.

The dispute was resolved after Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones relinquished their share of royalties for “Bitter Sweet Symphony.”

“Symphony” has also found a place on the Alternative Digital Song Sales and Rock Digital Song Sales charts, ranked 20 and 23, respectively.

“Bitter Sweet Symphony” was the lead track off the English alternative rock band’s third studio album, Urban Hymns.

The song, which first became a hit shortly after its release in 1997, reached No. 12 on the Hot 100 the next year.

It was also ranked among the top 10 on the Adult Alternative Songs and Alternative Songs airplay charts.
