Jason Momoa Reflects on Being "Too Broke to Fly Home" While Filming Game of Thrones

Though he’s now leading a superhero franchise, Jason Momoa didn’t always lead a glamorous lifestyle. While feeling “homesick” filming Denis Villeneuve’s forthcoming Dune, the actor took to Instagram to reflect on the time he drove through Ireland and slept in a van with his friend, producer Brian Andrew Mendoza, after not being able to afford a flight home during a break in production on the first season of Game of Thrones.

Alongside a photo of himself lying on air mattresses in said van, Momoa wrote, “We were [too] broke to fly home so we rented a panel van aka UHAUL in Belfast and drove around beautiful amazing IRELAND searching for the greatest pint of Guinness. Turns out it’s perfect everywhere.” He added, “So many wonderful people and stories. I treasure those times. It was the simplest moments I remember the most. I still miss my family. Been a long road and I feel like I’m just getting started.” The widely loved star sure has come a long way.
