Kate Middleton wears tiara made famous by Diana and the Queen Mother’s earrings

Kate Middleton’s tiara for Donald Trump’s state dinner tonight is the Princess Diana’s Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara.

The piece belongs to the Queen, but has been loaned by Kate many times.

It was made by Garrards in 1914 for Queen Mary who designed it and left it in her will to her Majesty, The Queen. It is estimated to be worth between 1 and 2 million.

The very heavy piece went back into The Queen’s collection after Diana died in 1997.

Kate Middleton has worn these earrings on numerous occasions too, perhaps because they match her engagement ring.

However, the gems used to belong to the Queen Mother.

They have a large sapphires surrounded by diamonds. There is also a fringe of diamonds and small sapphires hanging below.

It is thought that the Queen would have inherited these gems when her mother died in 2002.

This is not the only tiara Kate Middleton has worn.

For her wedding Kate wore the Cartier Scroll tiara, which has come to be known as the Halo Tiara.

Deborah Papas, gemologist and jewellery expert from Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn told Express.co.uk of this piece: “This halo scroll tiara was made in platinum by Cartier for the Duke of York to give to his wife just before he became King George VI in 1936. The Queen Mother gave it to her daughter, at the time, Princess Elizabeth for her 18th Birthday present in 1944.

“The Queen Mother was only ever photographed wearing it once and then she was seen wearing much grander pieces. The Queen has not been seen wearing it much either but has been lending it out to other royals.”

Royal tiaras are a big part of any state occasion when it comes to royal style.

Kate appears to be a big fan of tonight style, wearing it on many occasions since her wedding to Prince William.

Camilla Parker Bowles tends to favour the Greville Tiara.

One royal tiara costs a whopping £10 million, and it was recently worn at Princess Eugenie’s wedding.

Princess Eugenie wore an impressive 93.70 cts cabochon Emerald Tiara for her wedding in October this year, which was hand made by Boucheron in 1919.
