Steakhouse staff sends brutal text to ‘absolute spanner’ after bad review threat

The staff of a steakhouse in Snowdonia National Park have shared the shocking moment a customer threatened to leave a bad review after being made to wait to be seated.

The Gatehouse Steakhouse Dolgellau posted screenshots of the conversation to Facebook.

They said: “Eat Out Help Out has been fantastic for the hospitality industry…and especially for us.

“It’s helped us claw back so much lost revenue and there has been a real buzz about Dolgellau."

“Whilst we have done everything to maximise business and make customers happy, there is always one absolute spanner. (WhatsApp message in photos)."

They continued: “Before you read this…just think back to march 23rd when no matter how much money or influence you had, you couldn't dine out for months…”

The beef restaurant is based in the stunning Welsh park where tourists often travel for hiking.

In the messages, a customer complained that he and his wife had to wait 12 minutes outside before being seated.

The restaurant replied with an apology and explained that it can be hard to kick customers out while they are finishing their drinks.

The rude guest was having none of it though, and said that while the food and service were fine and the steaks “perfect” he was “f***ing p***ed off”.

He said: “We’re on holiday, and paying your staff’s wages, so don’t expect to be kept waiting.

“p*** take.”

Once again the staff member apologised, and added: “It’s a saving grace that you waited in a beautiful part of the world.”

The aggressive customer then surprised the steakhouse worker.

He wrote: “Is that the best you can do?

“I don’t appreciate your attitude, I’m in paying your staff’s wages and you’re getting cocky with me.

“Are you not gonna give me a free meal or some money back for the wait?

“Let’s be straight, you either give us a free meal or the money back or I’m going to report you to TripAdvisor.”

The restaurant worker was appalled by the threat.

They said that it was a “no-win situation” as they either had to kick customers out or keep some waiting.

He reminded the bloke that he could have enjoyed a drink at a nearby bar.

Plus, he said: “Please do your worst.

“That site is more fraudulent than Bernie Madoff’s pyramid scheme.”

Unfortunately, it seems that didn’t fly with the thuggish customer.

He ramped it up a notch and said: “F*** you, I’ll just write a s**t review and f*** up your business.

“And, I’ll tell all my friends that you’re s**t and you’re a d***head who doesn’t care about customers. You’ve really p***ed me off.

“You kept me and my wife waiting for five minutes."

The bloke added: “That doesn’t happen in Wetherspoons and you’re double the price.”

He went on to call the owner a number of expletives.

The post quickly racked up thousands of likes and hundreds of comments.

Some were outraged by the terrible behaviour on show.

One person said: “The staff member who replied was very tactful and deserves praise, this potty mouth needs to learn some manners."

Another wrote: “Just saying I work in a Wetherspoons and during EOTHO we’ve had people waiting outside up to an hour for a table!”

While a third wrote: “Well handled and excellent replies to a clearly foul mouthed individual out for a free lunch, even though it was a lot cheaper than normal.

“And in these days of queuing 12 mins is nothing.”
