American comedian Steve Carell is perhaps best known for his iconic portrayal of the gaffe-prone boss Michael Scott on the long-running sitcom The Office, but he is more than that. The American actor, comedian, producer, writer, and director Steve Carell from Concord, Massachusetts has been in the industry since 1989. Having been in the Hollywood limelight for many years, Steve Carell has amassed about $80 million of net worth.

Steve Carell can be considered as one of the hard-working and most versatile actor in Hollywood. Steven John Carell was born on August 16, 1962 in Concord, Massachusetts. His father was an electrical engineer, Edwin Carell, and his mother was a psychiatric nurse, Harriet Theresa. He was raised together with his three older brothers in Anton, Massachusetts. Their family loves music and they would even perform together with Carell tasked to play the fife. He attended high school at the Middlesex School, where he enjoyed playing ice hockey and lacrosse. He then continued his education at the Denison University in Granville, Ohio. He graduated with a degree in History in 1984.

During his time at the Denison University, he has joined a group of student doing improvisational comedy named Burpee’s Seedy Theatrical Company. He also worked as a DJ at the radio station in their campus with a DJ name Sapphire Steve Carell. He fell in love with performing and soon he was part of a touring children’s theater company. He has also performed on the comedic musical titled Knat Scatt Private Eye and has appeared in commercial for the restaurant chain Brown’s Chicken in 1989.

Start of His Hollywood Career

In 1991, Carell decided to join the Chicago comedy troupe The Second City, and that same year he made his movie debut with a minor role in a comedy drama titled Curly Sue. After five years of working and taking some small roles, Carell was cast in sketch comedy program called The Dana Carvey Show in 1996. Although the comedy show only aired seven episodes in total, the show spawned the animated short segment titled The Ambiguously Gay Duo. Carell continuously worked hard during the late 1990s and has even starred in a lot of short-lived television series including Over the Top which aired in 1997 and Watching Ellie which aired from 2002 to 2003.

Carell did not give up even though he was only getting small roles and small projects through the years. He does love what he is doing and that is what matters to him. In 1999 he got to be a correspondent for the late-night talk and news satire show called The Daily Show which lasted until 2005. The show has featured a lot of regular segments including the one he did with Stephen Colbert, Even Stevphen. He was given his first major movie role during this time where he starred alongside Will Ferrell in a comedy movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy in 2004.

In 2005, Carell has signed with NBC to lead the American remake of the British sitcom The Office. The comedy series was a mockumentary which documents the life of employees at the mid-sized paper supply company, Dunder Mifflin. Carell played the company’s regional manager, Michael Scott. This role was pivotal to his success as this propelled his name into the spotlight. The series proved to be wildly popular despite getting low ratings for its pilot season. When he began filming for The Office, he was only earning $87,000 per episode, however as the show progressed his salary increased. At the peak of the show, he was earning $300,000 per episode which made him about $7.8 million in total for doing The Office.

With the success of The Office, he started getting roles left and right and even earned millions doing a single movie. Carell soon starred in countless movies and some of the movies that made him the most money was Dinner for Schmucks in 2010 where he was paid $12 million and Crazy, Stupid Love in 2011 where he paid $15 million. Through the years, he has earned $80 million, though earned majority of it from acting, he also earned as a director and as a producer. He has directed some of the episodes of The Office and has also directed Angie Tribeca. Some of the movies he produced were The 40-Year-Old-Virgin, Get Smart, Crazy, Stupid Love, among many other.
