Avengers Endgame Blu-ray and DVD release date: When is Avengers Endgame out on DVD?

Avengers: Endgame landed in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019 to fanfare, both from fans and at the box office. The final chapter in the Infinity Saga has shattered almost every box office record to date. Fans are undeniably excited for when the movie eventually comes out on DVD and digital download.

When is Avengers: Endgame out on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital download?

Avengers: Endgame is, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger, out on digital download on December 11, 2019.

This date is only in America, and exclusively on Disney+ the Disney exclusive streaming service.

Disney+ has yet to confirm when, and if, it will stream content outside of the USA.

Bob Iger said in a press release: “We’re very pleased with our Q2 results and thrilled with the record-breaking success of Avengers: Endgame, which is now the second-highest grossing film of all time and will stream exclusively on Disney+ starting December 11.

AVENGERS ENDGAME: THIS CAPTAIN AMERICA TWIST COULD MEAN [SPOILER]

“The positive response to our direct-to-consumer strategy has been gratifying, and the integration of the businesses we acquired from 21st Century Fox only increases our confidence in our ability to leverage decades of iconic storytelling and the powerful creative engines across the entire company to deliver an extraordinary value proposition to consumers.”

As for territories outside of America, DVDreleasedates.com estimates the home entertainment release for August 2019.

According to Bill Hunt, an American media analyst: “Retail sources tell me the street date for Avengers Endgame on Blu-ray and 4K is moving up a week (from 8/20) to 8/13.”

Amazon.co.uk does not list a date for when Endgame will be available to stream.

AVENGERS ENDGAME: MARVEL GIVES FEMALE FANS MAJOR NOD – IS IT ENOUGH?

You can pre-order the hard copy of Avengers: Endgame as well, but this listing does not have a date listed either.

The fourth Avengers instalment will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, 3D, and DVD.

The home entertainment edition will likely include plenty of bonus features, but nothing has been confirmed.

If Avengers: Endgame does, in fact, come out in the UK on digital download by August, this will be a full six months before fans in America can stream the film.

AVENGERS ENDGAME SPOILERS: IS THIS CHARACTER ACTUALLY ALIVE?

Confusingly, Amazon.com – the American version of the retailer – does offer Avengers: Endgame on Amazon Video as a pre-order.

Disney+ is scheduled for a launch date of November 12, 2019, and will cost $6.99 a month, or $69.99 annually and is only available in the USA.

The streaming service will include Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic content.

Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Danai Gurira as Okoye and Bradley Cooper as Rocket, with Gwyneth Paltrow Pepper Potts, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Benedict Wong as Wong, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Josh Brolin as Thanos.

The movie is still enjoying its cinematic run, so you can head to cinemas to see it.

Avengers: Endgame is now playing in cinemas.

The 10 best college football running backs for the 2019 season

USA TODAY Sports is getting ready for the 2019 college football season by breaking down the best players at each position in the Bowl Subdivision. Up next: the running backs.

The list includes an AJ (Dillon), a J.K. (Dobbins) and a CJ (Verdell) but just one senior, a former Power Five transfer who might lead the SEC in rushing. As at quarterback, it's a top-heavy group: Wisconsin's Jonathan Taylor and Clemson's Travis Etienne are the consensus top players at the position.

1. Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin (Jr.)

Taylor has cracked 100 yards in all but five of his 27 career games and has run for 4,171 yards across his first two seasons, setting the All-America product on pace to become the leading rusher in FBS history. He'll shoulder an even bigger load in 2019 as the Badgers break in a first-year starting quarterback.

2. Travis Etienne, Clemson (Jr.)

Etienne is no longer flying under the radar after his sophomore successes, which included an FBS-best 24 rushing touchdowns on 8.13 yards per carry during the Tigers' perfect season. He combines with sophomore quarterback Trevor Lawrence to give Clemson the best backfield in college football.

3. D'Andre Swift, Georgia (Jr.)

Swift's talent has outweighed his touches across his first two years with the Bulldogs, though his production saw a significant uptick across the second half of last season. He's in line for even more carries as a junior, which should give Georgia another Heisman Trophy contender to go with Jake Fromm.

4. AJ Dillon, Boston College (Jr.)

Injuries slowed Dillon in 2018, though he still ended up edging Etienne by a hair to lead the ACC in rushing yards per game. The centerpiece of the Eagles' offense — and a tone-setter for the program's physical approach — Dillon is in line for 1,500 yards and double-digit scores behind a line that's inexperienced but loaded with potential.

5. Eno Benjamin, Arizona State (Jr.)

Benjamin's superb 2018 came on the heels of a little-used freshman campaign, making him one of the great breakout stars of last season. Likely the best back out West, he is a very strong NFL candidate due to his talent as a runner and developing skills as a receiver. Look for Benjamin to approach or pass 2,000 yards in total offense in 2019.

6. Kennedy Brooks, Oklahoma (So.)

Even as he's not likely to earn 200-plus carries, Brooks showed as a redshirt freshman why he's among the most productive per-touch players in the FBS, rushing for 1,056 yards and 12 scores on just 119 carries. He'll again be one of several options among Oklahoma's plethora of offensive talent and serve as a security blanket while the Sooners' scheme adapts to fit new quarterback Jalen Hurt's skill set.

7. Ke'Shawn Vaughn, Vanderbilt (Sr.)

The lone senior on the list, Vaughn caught fire down the stretch of 2018, rushing for 749 yards across Vanderbilt's last five games and going for 243 yards in a narrow bowl loss to Baylor. Look for this to carry over to September. A former transfer from Illinois, Vaughn could carry the Commodores back into the postseason.

8. Cam Akers, Florida State (Jr.)

Once a trendy Heisman contender, Akers' sophomore swoon matched Florida State's sluggish debut under coach Willie Taggart. Whether Akers rebounds in 2019 depends in no small part on the production of the Seminoles' maligned offensive line and whether Taggart can cobble together solid quarterback play from an unimposing list of options. If FSU gets improvement from both areas, however, Akers will recapture the hype that joined his fantastic freshman year.

9. J.K. Dobbins, Ohio State (Jr.)

Dobbins might be not the best fit for new Ohio State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich and his scheme, which at Oklahoma State was built around shiftier and more explosive backs with speed to hit and turn the corner. But Dobbins is steady and reliable — almost 2,500 yards during his first two years — and a safe bet to again crack 1,000 yards and earn all-conference honors.

10. CJ Verdell, Oregon (So.)

Verdell ended his freshman year as the only player in the FBS with 1,000 yards on the ground and another 300 yards as a receiver. Along with fellow sophomore Travis Dye — he ran for 739 yards in 2018 — Verdell provides Oregon with balancing production to go with potential All-America quarterback Justin Herbert.

Five also just missing out

Spencer Brown, Alabama-Birmingham; Najee Harris, Alabama; Jermar Jefferson, Oregon State; Greg McCrae, Central Florida; J.J. Taylor, Arizona.

On this date in 1997, Michael Jordan had the flu. That normally is enough cause for someone to take a week off of office work — to say nothing of a job that requires you to run and jump for two-plus hours. ‘You should have been there!’ Calls for Sarah Ferguson to join Royal Family on balcony

Sarah Ferguson is the Duchess of York as the former-wife of the Queen second-eldest son Prince Andrew.

The couple had a high profile marriage and divorce, but now get on famously well.

In fact, the divorced pair still share a residence, the Royal Lodge in Windsor.

Fans are now calling for Sarah, often fondly called Fergie, to be able to rejoin the royals for events such as the Trooping the Colour.

Sarah Ferguson news: Fergie and Andrew fans call for Duchess of York to rejoin royals

Sarah used her Instagram account to post pictures of her family from the event Saturday just gone.

She posted a snap of Andrew standing next to the Queen.

Also included was an image of Andrew riding a horse and her two daughters, which she shares with the Prince, Beatrice, 30, an Eugenie, 29.

She captioned the image: “Happy Birthday Your Majesty and very proud of Andrew, Beatrice and Eugenie at Trooping the Colour today @hrhthedukeofyork.”

Fans were quick to comment on the Duchess’s image. One wrote: “Watched it from Italy, such an amazing parade and the Duke of York proved himself a great leader!”

They added: “Just one regret: what a shame that we couldn’t see you out on the balcony together with your lovely family.

“I must confess that deep down I still hope one day we’ll be able to see you there again, where you really belong and always have.”

Another said: “Sarah, We would all like to see you there. You and Andrew are a love match – you always were.”

“You should have been there,” another said.

Sarah was not at the Trooping the Colour, but she did attend Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding with Prince Andrew.

Many fans were surprised to see her there with her ex husband, and it did little to stem any rumours of a romantic union between the pair.

Calls for Fergie and Andrew to remarry are often on the lips of fans of the Duchess, some of whom believe the pair are secretly an item.

People have revealed they are ‘waiting’ for the announcement that Fergie and Prince Andrew will remarry.

A number are convinced that a remarriage will happen, with one writing: “I have be waiting for that announcement for years.”

Yewande appeared to take a dig at the social media influencer, after she claimed model Danny was “her type”.

Hitting back, Yewande, who enjoyed a romantic date with Danny earlier on in the episode told Amber and Lucie: “I know she says he’s her type, but everyone is her f*****g type.”

Viewers took to Twitter to slam Molly-Mae for growing close to Danny while still coupled up with Tommy, who she admitted to having doubts about.

Paedophile hunter downloaded over 1,000 child porn images

Paedophile hunter, 21, downloaded 1,700 child porn images after ‘becoming attracted to the pictures’ while trying to snare perverts online

  • Cameron Battisson, 21, downloaded 1,700 images of child porn, a court heard
  • In 2017, police seized his laptop and smartphone, and discovered vile images
  • He accessed the websites to catch perverts but became attracted to the photos
  • Judge Glenn told him he didn’t accept his conduct was explained by his autism

Cameron Battisson, 21 (pictured), from Sandyford, downloaded 1,700 child porn images. The Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard he initially accessed twisted websites to snare paedophiles before becoming increasingly attracted to the photos

A paedophile hunter who downloaded over 1,700 images of child abuse over two years after becoming attracted to the sickening photographs has been arrested.

Cameron Battisson, 21, was arrested after police executed a warrant at his Sandyford home, in Stoke-On-Trent, seizing his laptop and smartphone.

Officers found 697 images at category A – deemed the most serious, 500 at category B and 500 at C.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard Battisson initially accessed the twisted websites to snare paedophiles before becoming increasingly attracted to what he saw.

An investigation also revealed the defendant had distributed the pictures to other like-minded perverts.

Battisson pleaded guilty to possessing indecent photographs of children and distributing indecent photographs of children.

He has been handed a three-year community order and made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

Battisson was also ordered to pay £300 court costs.

Prosecutor William Donnelly said police executed a warrant at the defendant’s home in July 2017.

Mr Donnelly said: ‘Devices were seized in particular a Dell laptop and a smartphone. As a result of what was found on the laptop he was arrested.

‘When the defendant was interviewed by police following his arrest he said it began a couple of years prior when he began to explore this area of the internet.

‘He says initially it was in the hope he was going to be able to snare people involved in this sort of activity but some time thereafter began to become attracted to images of these children which he had seen and began to ask others to send him photographs and he too sending photographs to them.’

Hamish Noble, mitigating, said the defendant had an autism diagnosis in 2011 and also struggles with learning difficulties.

Mr Noble added: ‘A female friend at college recommended to him the possibility of snaring people online. He went online but very quickly he forgot why he went on there and became involved in frequent downloading and sharing of these images.

Judge Paul Glenn said he didn’t accept Battisson didn’t gain sexual gratification from the images. He told Battison: ‘It was a significant number of images… The question I have to assess is the prospect for rehabilitation and there may well be and for that reason I won’t send you to prison’

‘He did become desensitized to what he was seeing. He lost his job working in a pet shop over concerns about contact with children. He was on employment support allowance until June 2018 when he obtained employment at a skip company.

‘He keeps himself to himself and has been obsessed with looking after his parents’ garden. It is very impressive, he has few other outlets. Immediate custody would have a significant impact on his family and he would be likely to be extremely vulnerable in custody.’

Judge Paul Glenn said he didn’t accept that Battisson didn’t gain sexual gratification from the images.

He told Battisson: ‘I do not accept that your conduct can simply be explained by reference to the autistic spectrum disorder.

‘You do seem now to understand that these are real children being abused, being irreparably damaged for the entertainment of people who access this material and those who download this sort of material encourage the perpetrators of this vile abuse.

‘It was a significant number of images, many of them moving images. The question I have to assess is the prospect for rehabilitation and there may well be and for that reason I won’t send you to prison.’

Chernobyl is getting more tourists since the HBO miniseries came out

☢ Many of you asked me about Pripyat and Chernobyl. So I decided to write this short post below. Well guys, it is really easy to visit it as long as you are not too afraid specially after the #HBO series. The procedure is the following: you need to book your tour online in advance, because there is not free access to the exclusive zone. I used @chernobyl_exclusive_tours, which I highly recommend. The locations included are : Chernobyl Town, Secret Duga Radar (one of my favourite), The new safe confinement, Red forest, Pripyat and the amusement Park, #Soviet command centre and of course the #chernobyl #powerplant. It is a one day trip departing from Kiev, which is available only for adults over 18 years old. You have tour guide available in English and Russian. The level of #radiation is higher than normal but not dangerous for couple of hours (after the tour you pass a radiation test). The price is approximately 100 dollars. And surprisingly there is a restaurant in #chernobyl with amazing ice-cream!😁 So according to my experience, this place is a MUST! Don't hesitate to message me for more info and #visitukraine! #radioactive #nuclearpower #nuclearpowerplant #exclusivezone #travelrepost #travelwithmeaning #travelgoal #traveltherenext #backpackerstory #nomadgirls #nomadlifestyle #backpackerstory #girlswanderlust #womanwhoexplore #sheisnotlost #girlsthatwander #darlingescapes #thetravelwoman #femmetravel #gotravelgirls #wearetravelgirls #passionpassport #iamatraveler

I’m not going to give any spoilers for Chernobyl, but aside from a massive plot misstep in the second to last episode it was masterful. (Those of you who have seen it know exactly what I’m talking about.)The performances were amazing, the script and dialogue were incredible, and it was a riveting look at a horrible disaster that could have been much worse. There’s a lot of analysis about what was factual and what was not. I won’t give too many details except to say that the show itself clears some of that up. I would watch it again it was so good, and I’m not someone who watches shows more than once.

One of the things Chernobyl really nails is the mid-80s Eastern European setting. You feel like you’re in Russia at that time and that gives it more emotional impact. NBC had a recent segment about how tourism to Chernobyl is increasing due to interest after the HBO show came out. The village of Pripyat and the surrounding areas are time capsule ghost towns and while there is still radiation 33 years after the accident it’s considered relatively safe to briefly visit.

The area around the plant retains the feel of a post-apocalyptic wasteland, where stray dogs roam and vegetation encroaches into windowless, abandoned buildings strewn with rubble.

In Pripyat, the ghost town once home to 50,000 people who mainly worked at the plant, an amusement park houses a rusting hulk of a merry-go-round and dodgem-car track, and a giant Ferris wheel that never went into operation. The wheel was to open on May 1 — the traditional May Day holiday.

Sergiy Ivanchuk, director of SoloEast tours, told Reuters the company saw a 30% increase in tourists going to the area in May 2019 compared with the same month last year. Bookings for June, July and August have risen by approximately 40% since HBO aired the show, he said.

Yaroslav Yemelianenko, director of Chernobyl Tour, said he expected a similar increase of 30-40% because of the show.

His company offers a special tour of locations depicted in the series, including the bunker where the initial decision by local officials not to evacuate after the explosion was made.

Day-trippers board buses in the center of Kiev and are driven 75 miles to the area, where they can see monuments to the victims and abandoned villages and have lunch in the only restaurant in the town of Chernobyl…

“Many people come here, they ask a lot of questions about the TV show, about all the events. People are getting more and more curious,” said tour guide Viktoria Brozhko, who insists the area is safe for visitors.

“During the entire visit to the Chernobyl exclusion zone, you get around two microsieverts, which is equal to the amount of radiation you’d get staying at home for 24 hours”,” she said.

Thieme Bosman, an 18-year-old student from the Netherlands, worries that the bump in tourist numbers will have a downside.

“There are quite a lot of tourists already here and it does kind of take away the experience of being in a completely abandoned town, so I think if more and more tourists come here that will ruin the experience,” he said.

[From NBC]

The Today Show has more below, including scenes from Chernobyl from inside a school and the hospital. I get the appeal of abandoned places and how slice-of-life yet eerie they can be. We used to sneak into an abandoned train station near where I went to college, which has since been revitalized and turned into a community space. There are some beautiful pictures on reddit from photographers and hobbyists who visit abandoned homes and facilities (including Chernobyl). However this is different because so many people died, got cancer and had their lives uprooted at Chernobyl. This was a horrible disaster. I get that it’s been over 30 years but how does one watch that harrowing show and come away with the idea that they’d like to visit the place? There’s still radiation there and while visiting for brief periods may be safe, it’s not something I’d personally risk.

Here’s that Today Show segment:

Here’s an Instagram post from one of the tourist groups. There’s also a screenshot below of one of their stories from today. They go into the power plant!

Michael Douglas releases Hollywood-style ad in desperate bid to sell £26million Majorca mansion for half the original asking price – The Sun

MICHAEL Douglas has released a Hollywood-style marketing advert in a desperate bid to sell his cliff-side mansion in Majorca.

The Basic Instinct star has provided a voice-over for the film as he tries to flog the luxurious home for almost half the original asking price.

Douglas initially put the S'Estaca estate on the the market for $60million (£47million) in 2014, though despite its location on Majorca's stunning northern coast, the property has failed to generate interest.

The ten-bedroom villa is now on the market for a cut-price £26million.

'MAGICAL RETREAT'

In the two-minute promo video, Wall Street actor Douglas tells how he "fell under the spell of the S'Estaca in 1989" when he bought it with then wife Diandra Luker for $3.5 million (£2.76million).

He then explains how his life has "taken a different course", prompting him to again push to sell the 250-acre estate, which is home to two cottages and five apartments.

Douglas, who has been married to actress Catherine Zeta-Jones since 2000, also gives viewers an overview of the estate's history as the helicopter-recorded footage reveals spectacular views of the "magical retreat" that boasts its own vineyard and olive grove.

My life has taken a new course, and now it is time for me to let someone else enjoy the privilege and the adventure of S’Estaca

The 74-year-old says: "In the mid-19th century, Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Habsburg bought a large piece of land on the northwest coast of the island of Majorca, and began to create a magical retreat."

Narrating over scenes of luxurious bedrooms and a rock-carved swimming pool, Douglas adds: "My life has taken a new course, and now it is time for me to let someone else enjoy the privilege and the adventure of S’Estaca."

He lists the "beauty, the privacy and the uninterrupted views” as the main selling points of the property in the film, which was posted by the upmarket German real-estate agency Engel & Völkers.

The actor’s asking price has decreased year after year since the property was first put up for sale, falling to €36.5 million (£32.5million) last summer, according to Mallorca newspaper Última Hora.

Biggest slump in car production in 40 years sent Britain’s economy into reverse – The Sun

THE biggest slump in car production for more than 40 years sent Britain’s economy into reverse in April.

Shock official figures revealed economic output – or GDP – fell by 0.4 per cent. And it was fuelled by car makers bringing forward annual factory shutdowns in case there was a ‘No Deal’ Brexit on March 29.

Theresa May avoided a No Deal by signing a negotiating extension with Brussels. The GDP fall marks the second consecutive month the economy has contracted.

And the scale of the 0.4 per cent stunned City experts who had been predicting a minor 0.1 per cent drop. Car production was down 24 per cent – the worst performance since the mid-1970s.

And manufacturing output fell by the biggest extent since 2002.

'MARRED BY BREXIT UNCERTAINTY'

BMW Mini was one of those who brought forward its traditional summer shutdown. Jaguar Land Rover staged a week-long closure.

Experts said Britain’s economy was clearly being “dragged down” by the Brexit uncertainty.

Yael Selfin, chief economist at KPMG UK, said: “The hangover that’s followed the UK’s original exit date is proving stronger than anticipated.

“Today’s figures signal the UK economy is likely to experience more subdued growth for the rest of the year, marred by Brexit uncertainty.”

Lib Dem leadership contender Ed Davey: “This is a really worrying indicator of the fragile state of our economy and should shame any Tory leadership candidate continuing to push for a no-deal Brexit.

“If just uncertainty can cause this shrink in manufacturing and our GDP, then it doesn’t bear thinking about what crashing out of Europe with no-deal could do.”

Today’s figures signal the UK economy is likely to experience more subdued growth for the rest of the year, marred by Brexit uncertainty.

The figures mark a stark contrast with the first three months of the year – when growth surged on firms stockpiling to prepare for a possible No Deal.

Experts yesterday warned GDP growth this year may only hit 1.5 per cent.

But they added the sluggish output meant there was little chance of homeowners being hit by higher interest rates until the middle of next year.

Samuel Tombs, chief UK economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics said that although GDP figures for April to June could be “awful”, the economy should recover later in the year.

“We’re reluctant to conclude that the economy has fundamentally lost momentum, given the still-bright outlook for households’ real incomes,” he said.

Sinkholes close motorway as floods cause travel chaos for millions with roads and rail tracks underwater

SINKHOLES closed the M25 as relentless thunderstorms and flash floods sparked weather warnings and travel chaos for millions across England today.

Cars and rail tracks were submerged after more than a month's rain fell in just 24 hours in parts of Kent and East Sussex.

Two sinkholes were also discovered after a lorry crash – forcing parts of the M25 to close overnight.

And there's no sign the downpours will stop any time soon – with Met Office yellow weather warnings in place until Thursday at the earliest.

Many parts of southern England have been completely submerged after heavy thunderstorms rolled in on Monday.

Kent and East Sussex have seen the worst of the intense rainfall – but deluges have also affected parts of the South West, South Wales and East Anglia.

Today's yellow weather warning forecast "heavy prolonged rainfall" across the Midlands and most of the North of England.

Thousands of families in the West Country were put on sandbag alert this morning after last night's torrential rain – with 37 flood alerts and three flood warnings in place across the country.

The downpours led to flooding across roads and railway lines, causing problems with power-supply and signalling equipment.

Network Rail South East added: "Across the region, we suffered over a month's rainfall in just one day and in some areas, the downpours equated to 2 month's rain.

"We've been constantly monitoring the weather and despite handling the brunt yesterday, the deluge overnight overwhelmed some drainage systems.

"However, despite our efforts we still suffered a number of flood issues."

More than 80 homes were blacked out by power cuts this morning in St Austell, Cornwall, and Torquay, Devon.

Meanwhile, a home was destroyed in Dartmoor when a lightning strike hit its thatched roof about 11pm last night.

'SLOW DOWN'

Police in Kent warned that drivers taking to the roads today should remain vigilant and strictly follow signs advising them to slow down.

And they said that parts of the busy M20 motorway had vanished under standing water.

The force tweeted: "The M20 Junction 1-2 where river has burst its banks and now flooding all three lanes of carriageway.

"Amazingly drivers are ignoring warning advising them to slow down!"

Meanwhile in Norfolk, a woman escaped serious injury after her car skidded and plunged off the A1122 in the rain.

Police arrived to find just the roof of the car visible above the water but the woman – who was alone in the vehicle – was alive.

An elderly woman, in her 80s, also had to be rescued from her flooded home along with her dog by Kent Fire and Rescue.

The combination of rain and thunderstorms earlier led the Met Office to issue amber warnings for most of the South East – stretching from Oxford to the Kent coast.

It warned homes and businesses are “likely to be flooded” and “fast-flowing floodwater is possible – causing danger to life”.

These warnings have since been downgraded to less severe – but still impactful – yellow alerts covering the South West, Eastern and Central England.

Two police officers were taken to hospital after their car crashed in the bad weather on the A1M just south of Stevenage last night.

Elsewhere, London's North Circular Road was flooded between Charlie Brown's roundabout and Waterworks Corner.

Kingston Bridge was closed due to flooding on the underpass and while it was reopened last night congestion in the area was causing traffic to move slowly.

Kent Police earlier warned against all but "absolutely necessary" road travel following a series of collisions.

Posting on Twitter, the force said: "Countless calls of roads flooded, some over a foot deep, around the county and cars stranded.

"We are doing what we can but please don't make it worse by trying to get through. Stay home, stay safe."

Surrey Police have also warned about flooding in the county – telling drivers to slow down.

In a message on Twitter, the force said: "We are attending a lot of RTC’s due to drivers driving too fast for the conditions.

"Slow down, increase braking distances and brake gently.

"Take all the speed you need to take off for a bend, before the bend and not on it."

The Met office warned this week would see "particularly intense" rain and thunderstorms rolling across southern and eastern parts of England.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said "If you add it all up some places are likely to see over 100mm this week, which is around double the average they would get in the whole of June."

Met Office meteorologist Luke Miall told The Sun Online there was also a danger of flooding and surface flooding on roads in many areas.

The weather conditions would mean high temperatures in affected areas will stay well below average for this week – hovering around the 12-14C mark.

Elsewhere, parts of North West Scotland would be warmer at 17-18C – while temperatures in the south east though could hit 19C today.

Summer washout – Why is the weather in England so bad?

LOW pressure sweeping in from the North has combined with hot, humid air rising from Europe to unleash a barrage of thunderstorms over England this week.

Warm air is being drawn across the channel by the low pressure system – combining with moisture in the atmosphere.

This combination of humid, moist air, low pressure and warm temperatures is a recipte for intense downpours.

Met Office forecasters expect the worst of the weather will not pass until the end of the week.

The EA added: "We are actively monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond if required."

Bookies have slashed the odds on this month being the wettest June on record.

Coral has cut its odds from 5/4 to 1/2.

John Hill, a spokesman for the betting firm, said: "With a yellow weather warning in place, this week could be one of the wettest of the year.

"As a result, we have slashed the odds on this month being a record wet June.

“Not only is this week going to be a washout, the betting suggests the wind speed could reach as high as 100mph in mainland UK.

"So at the moment, summer seems a long way off."
