    Word from the ground

Here's what SunSport's Martin Lipton makes of this stunning World Cup Final:

    A truly, truly, incredible night.

    The greatest World Cup Final.

Won by the man who the whole of football wanted to see win.

But only after a truly remarkable personal transformation by Mbappe.

    That was incredible.

And this, remember, was an Argentina side that looked like they might be going OUT after they lost their opener, here at Lusail, to Saudi Arabia.

Instead, a month later, they can start to get the ticker-tape ready in Buenos Aires.

Then again, as they say, it’s not how you start – it’s how you finish.

Argentina have finished as champions of the world, for the third time.

Don’t think Antonio Conte, Roberto de Zerbi, Pep Guardiola, Unai Emery or Erik ten Hag can expect to see Romero, Mac Allister, Alvarez, or either of the Prem Martinez back for the Boxing Day games

And it was Messi who stood tall and finally won a World Cup with Argentina.

Mbappe put together a stunning performance and almost won the title back to back for France.

But as the below shows, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner was far more influential with more touches on the pitch compared to his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate who mainly played on the left.
