Canelo Alvarez defeats Callum Smith in brutal fight to win WBA and WBC super middleweight world titles

Canelo Alvarez produced a brutal masterclass to defeat Britain’s Callum Smith on points and clinch the WBA and WBC super middleweight world titles.

Smith displayed tremendous courage to reach the final bell but had no answer to the Mexican’s sickening power, and relinquished his undefeated record in a landslide on the scorecards.

The victory makes Canelo a four-division world champion and he remains the world’s No 1 pound-for-pound fighter, and the sheer dominance of his victory only emphasised the height of his powers, with Smith previously considered the standout boxer at 168lbs.
