Doncaster Races: Betting tips, racecards, odds and preview for the live ITV Racing on Wednesday
CROWDS make a welcome return to racecourses on Wednesday on Day 1 of the Leger meeting.
They should be in for a good day out, particularly with the addition of the Sceptre Stakes to the opening afternoon. Our man Jack Keene picks out his best bets in the feature races.
2.10 Scarbrough Stakes (Listed)
If he can reproduce his fine third behind Battaash in the Nunthorpe, Moss Gill would take a bit of beating.
He has been in fine form this season, winning a good Listed race prior to that personal best in Group 1 company.
He is a leading contender but has to carry a penalty here, with similar comments applied to Michael Dods' Dakota Gold, who took out the Beverley Bullet two starts ago.
So at the prices narrow preference is for Irish raider URBAN BEAT, who was a close second to the top sprinter Make A Challenge last time.
Johnny Murtagh is enjoying a brilliant season and his consistent five-year-old can land the spoils under Frankie Dettori.
It will be interesting to see how the two-year-old's get on in receipt of lumps of weight, particularly Acklam Express who continued his winning streak at York.
SELECTION: Urban Beat
3.15 Sceptre Fillies' Stakes (Group 3)
Jubiloso looked to have the world at her feet early last year but her career is threatening to fizzle out.
She was very disappointing on her return to action at Royal Ascot, over-racing and fading inside the closing stages to finish last despite being well-punted.
She can't be backed with any confidence right now, but if she were to rediscover the level of her Coronation Stakes third she'd have an excellent chance. That's a big 'if' though.
While older horses have made something of a fight back in the last couple of years, three-year-old's have generally dominated this race winning 11 of the last 14 renewals, and ALTHIQA can enhance that record for the Classic generation.
Charlie Appleby's filly has been in fine fettle this season, winning a French Listed race before finishing a close-up third behind One Master at Glorious Goodwood.
She was ahead of Guineas runner-up Cloak Of Spirits in France last time, this galloping 7f should suit her ideally and her trainer boasts a ridiculous 25% strike rate at this track over the last five years.
Mubtasimah was never able to land a blow from a poor position at Chelmsford last time and she is capable of better, as is the talented-yet-quirky Invitational.
