Football manager proposes to girlfriend on pitch before game and uses players to help him… but his team lose 5-1
A PARAGUAYAN football manager asked his girlfriend to marry him before his side were in action at the weekend.
Celso Rafael Ayala proposed to partner Lili Benitez with the help of his River Plate Asuncion players before kick off – but the day was tainted as 'Chito's' side were thumped 5-1 in their match against Guarani.
Chito arranged his players in a line on the pitch ahead of the first whistle, with the squad holding up letters that spelled out 'Lili, marry me.'
He then waited next to his daughters as his girlfriend was led onto the pitch.
And she immediately burst into tears as she spotted the question.
The 51-year-old River Plate Asuncion boss then knelt down on one knee and popped the all-important question, and her acceptance was captured by the Tigo Sports cameras.
His squad congratulated him before they quickly tried to turn their attention to the matter at hand.
But the home side's focus may still have been on the emotional engagement.

River Plate Asuncion hosted Guarani in a vital Paraguayan Primera Division clash.
The home side were third going into the game with visitors Guarani top of the table.
And Chito's side were 3-0 down after 45 minutes and ended up losing the game 5-1 to their title rivals.
River Plate Asuncion are still third in the Paraguayan Premier Division after the game, but are six points off the pace setters and their unbeaten opponents Guarani.
A win on the other hand would have seen the newly engaged Chito's side go just three points off the top of the table.
CHITO'S BIG GESTURE
But the former Paraguayan international centre-back will not care, and will have have happy memories of the weekend despite the 5-1 thrashing.
Chito played 53 times for his country between 1993 and 2003, and even spent the 1999-2000 season at La Liga side Atletico Madrid.
He also played 200 times for Argentinian side River Plate in two spells, and won the famous Copa Libertadores trophy with them in 1996.
