    Let's not get too down about tonight's result.

    Worth remembering that it wasn't England's first choice midfield and that's where we lacked composure and creativity.

    And anyway, it's only the poxy Nations League. We'll take this defeat if it means winning the European Championships next summer.

    A dejected Raheem Sterling has just been speaking;

    “I thought at times we soaked up pressure really well. Towards the end of the second half I thought we were the better team. But if you make silly mistakes at this level you get punished for it. VAR is one of those things. One day it might help us, but today it didn’t. We’re disappointed.

    “They got their pressing right on the night, and we made a few mistakes. We tried but it didn’t work. We have to keep trying. It just wasn’t to be. I think we’ve still made progress to get to this stage, and it’s all about kicking on now, and trying to achieve the last bit.”

    Well said.
