Man City and Bayern Munich in Frenkie De Jong transfer fight as 24-year-old continues to be shining light at Barcelona

MANCHESTER CITY and Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong, reports suggest.

De Jong continues to stand out at the Nou Camp this season despite Barca's several problems on and off the pitch.

According to Cacliomercato, City and Bayern have been monitoring the midfielder and are said to be very impressed with what they are seeing.

The Netherlands international joined the Blaugrana in 2019 following a scintillating three-year stint at Ajax.

The 24-year-old signed a long-term deal with Barcelona, which extends until 2026.

The Dutchman has since become immensely influential in the Catalan giants' midfield after linking up with Sergio Busquets.

De Jong has already made a total of 104 appearances across all competitions.

However, the club has been dealing with immense financial difficulties, which forced them to sell some of their biggest stars like Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann last summer.

And City are among the teams looking to take advantage of those problems with a potential offer for De Jong.

But it seems like the Citizens would have to overcome a bidding war with Bayern, who have been eyeing him since his Ajax days.

Reports suggest a £65million offer was floated by the German champions during the summer, only to be rebuffed by Barcelona.

But despite their interest, the Bavarians are described as highly unlikely to pull off a deal in the January transfer window.
