Vikings-Seahawks Week 5 "Sunday Night Football" Game Drew 11.42 Million Viewers
The Minnesota Vikings-Seattle Seahawks evening Week 5 contest dominated the television ratings on Sunday.
Despite competition from Game 6 of the NBA Finals, where the Los Angeles Lakers clinched championship over the Miami Heat, and Game 1 of the ALCS between the Tampa Bay Rays and Houston Astros, ratings were still high for Sunday Night Football this week.
Per Dino-Ray Ramos of Deadline, the Vikings-Seahawks game on NBC drew a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 11.42 million viewers. That was more than double the viewership total of the Lakers-Heat game, which drew a 2.1 rating and 5.6 million viewers, per Ramos.
The viewership for the Seattle-Minnesota game is slightly down from last week’s Sunday Night Football tilt between the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, which drew 11.71 million viewers and a 3.5 rating.
But the Seahawks and Vikings game was one of the best contests of 2020 thus far. Seattle trailed 26-21 after the two-minute warning, having stopped the Vikings on fourth-and-inches at the Seahawks’ six-yard line.
Russell Wilson – the MVP front-runner through five weeks – led his team on a 13-play, 94-yard drive – culminating in a game-winning touchdown pass to D.K. Metcalf on fourth-and-goal.
The Seattle defense prevented a late Vikings miracle, barely escaping with a 27-26 victory for the first 5-0 start in franchise history. Minnesota fell to 1-4 on the season as their playoff hopes continue to quickly fade away.
Viewership for Sunday Night Football continues to be a home run for NBC and the NFL. The ratings have consistently hit more than 10 million viewers here in a 2020 season like no other.
The Green Bay Packers-New Orleans Saints Week 3 Sunday night game recorded a reported 14.4 million viewers, as Aaron Rodgers led his team to a close 37-30 victory over Drew Brees and company.
The week before, the Seahawks’ Week 2 win over the New England Patriots drew a reported 12.2 million. This week’s Sunday Night Football tilt will feature the 49ers against the Los Angeles Rams at Levi’s Stadium.
