Weekend racing tips: Mark Johnston will have you Dancing like a King as trainer chases fourth Cesarewitch
UP-FOR-SALE Dancing King can add a few quid to his ticket price by giving Mark Johnston a fourth Cesarewitch.
No three-year-old has bagged Saturday’s 2m2f handicap at Newmarket since Darley Sun was a winning favourite for David Simcock in 2009.
And the last winner from the Classic age bracket before that was Johnston’s Spirit Of Love 11 years earlier.
The history books provide a clear indication, then, of the task facing DANCING KING.
He will also be 10lbs higher than his last winning handicap mark of 94 at Doncaster back in June.
But my fancy has since finished third in a Group 3 at HQ, a short-head second in a Listed race at Chester and won a Group 3 over 1m6f at Goodwood last time out.
Connections have turned down interest from several sources ahead of him going under the hammer at auction later this month.
But this progressive stayer has all the credentials to land Saturday’s big race at 3.35 before becoming a money- spinning sales topper as well.
Local trainer Michael Bell has each-way prospects in the Ces with Platform Nineteen.
However, I’m siding with the handler’s improving TRUE COURAGE to win the Old Rowley Cup at 4.10.
Newmarket’s 1m4f trip won’t be an issue for Hayley Turner’s mount after an excellent effort at Ascot five weeks ago.
Turner looks a great booking for a colt being asked to carry just 8st in this £120,000 race.
Jessie Harrington sends MAGICAL LAGOON over from Ireland for the Fillies’ Mile at 3.35 and this daughter of Galileo can beat the best of the British under Shane Foley.
Harrington’s filly readily reversed Naas maiden form with the highly-regarded Albula to win a Curragh Group 3 last time out.
This Irish 1000 Guineas entry can prove a cut above the home team — likely to be led by Frankie Dettori on Inspiral — for a trainer-jockey combo in absolutely flying form.

There’s an eight-race bonanza to round off Ayr’s 2021 Flat season and I’m backing soft ground specialist JOHN KIRKUP to reverse recent track-and-trip form with Big Les in the feature handicap sprint at 3.15.
The visual evidence would suggest that a 5lbs penalty wouldn’t have stopped Big Les winning here nine days ago.
But John Kirkup was beaten less than four lengths, despite his jockey accepting his fate a long way from home.
A more forceful ride from a good draw can see him record a fourth Ayr success.
Another course specialist ROYAL REGENT should have everything in place for a big run under David Allan in the 1.30.
And the same jockey is sure to be helped by first-time cheekpieces on TEMPER TRAP in the 2.05.
The chances of NIKOLAYEVA aren’t quite so obvious in the closing stayers handicap at 4.55.
Ben Curtis gets a good tune out of this filly and she turns up here from a mark 8lbs lower than her second in a better race than this at Redcar almost exactly a year ago.
Mick Appleby’s charge had hacked up by six lengths from a mark of 60 at Catterick a few weeks before that and today is the first time this season that Curtis is back on board.
John Quinn has REBEL REDEMPTION in the form of his life right now and the four-year-old can give Jason Hart another winner in Chelmsford’s 6.00.
SKY BLUE THINKING looks like double material under Oisin Murphy in the 7.00.
Delahunt daily bet for Thursday October 7
DALILEO to win 4.05 Thurles
Shark Hanlon managed a win and a second from this horse over hurdles at Perth and the return to the Flat can see him add to his three British wins for Mark Johnston.
Dalileo failed to hit the target for Johnny Murtagh but he was placed off higher marks than the one he’s slid to for this low-level two-miler.
Top pilot Billy Lee takes over from amateur Sean Fenelon and I’m banking on Lee getting the best out of a well-treated runner.
