Alison Hammond and Dermot OLeary to be replaced on This Morning, Phil confirms

Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary have been entertaining This Morning viewers each Friday since January, but they’ll be absent from the studio this week.

Instead, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby – who usually present from Monday to Thursday – will be stepping in, hosting the Friday instalment.

Phil, 59, confirmed the shakeup on Thursday when he revealed he and Holly will be presenting a segment on managing your cat’s stress levels.

He turned to Holly and remarked: "We’re doing tomorrow’s show, aren’t we?"

Holly confirmed they were, before wondering whether she ought to bring her own pet cat, a beautiful Tasmanian cat named Bluebell, in for the segment.

The presenters later explained why they were hosting the Friday show – it will be their last appearance on This Morning before they take time off for the summer break.

Holly said: "Tomorrow is Friday but we are both here before we head off for the summer."

Making up for her Friday absence, Alison featured on Thursday’s show, presenting the Dosh On Your Doorstep competition segment, which was complete with an England football theme.

Alison and Dermot took over from original Friday hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes on January 8, bringing their 14-year tenure to an end.

The married couple – who also feature on shows like Loose Women and Celebrity Gogglebox – continue to guest host This Morning on school holidays.

In a statement about the new role, Alison previously said: "I never dreamt that when I first joined This Morning – initially for a few months – that I would still be there 19 years later.

"I genuinely care about the show and the viewers who watch, so it's a huge privilege and honour to be hosting a show I adore so much.

"I'm just really excited to be doing even more of what I love alongside the lovely Dermot."

Former X Factor presenter Dermot was just as excited, making it clear it was a big challenge to follow on from Eamonn and Ruth’s legacy on the show.

He said: "I'm deeply thrilled and honoured to be joining the This Morning team next year. We have huge shoes to fill and we are well aware what a privilege it is to be stepping into them.

"Above all, we want to have fun and for you to be able to kick your weekend off with a smile, especially given the year we've all had.

"So I'm delighted to be co-hosting with the living embodiment of sunshine on a rainy day. I can't wait to get started."

This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
