BBC Breakfasts Naga Munchetty congratulates new co-star after host shake-up

As Nicky Campbell's departure was confirmed, BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty has congratulated Rick Edwards for taking on the slot.

The news was announced on September 1 as Rick shared the update to his Twitter page about his new job, expressing his excitement to join the popular team.

As he shared the update, Naga added: "Congratulations!" as she celebrated the achievement of their brand new host.

It followed BBC Radio 5's announcement which said: "We've got some exciting news. Rick Edwards will take over from Nicky Campbell as the new 5 Live Breakfast presenter alongside Rachel Burden from November. Congratulations Rick Edwards!"

Sharing his own comment, he added: "I realise I have some big boots to fill… but I'm very excited about popping them on and sitting alongside the brilliant Rachel every morning."

As he celebrated his new job, he jokingly replied to his own Tweet: "Hang on, I have to get up WHEN."

Rick was inundated with messages of congratulations, with many of his followers praising him for his new venture as he prepares to join the BBC Breakfast team.

The BBC Breakfast team includes the radio show and the TV show, with a range of hosts working together to bring fresh news to our screens and through the radio.

Naga also hosts the mid-morning show on the radio station on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Rick's debut comes after Nicky chose to leave the Breakfast show on BBC Radio 5 Live after almost 20 years on air.

Instead, he will now host a new weekday show based on his current one hour 'Your Call' phone in slot, with the new show launching later this year between 9am and 11am.

At the time he said: "Leaving Breakfast is really tough after so many unforgettable programmes with Rachel and the team, but I've been getting up at 4am for 19 years now, so it's time I had a bit more sleep!"

However, the decision was made to give the audience "more time on air" earlier this year, and radio controller Heidi Dawson said she believes Nicky is "the perfect presenter to enable that conversation".
