Delaney arrival to Below Deck Mediterranean aired in the episode which was broadcast on Bravo on August 30, 2021, and she made quite the impression. The newcomer to the Lady Michelle gave an introduction of who she was and what kind of stew she will be as chief stew Katie Flood brought her on board. But who exactly is she and why has she been cast on the show which also streams on Channel 4’s sister network, E4?
Who is Delaney Evans?
The newcomer to the Lady Michelle turned 26-years-old on April 30, 2021, and has a Media Studies degree from the University of Berkley in California.
Aside from this, she also has her captain’s licence, meaning she can operate a vessel which carries more than seven people.
Delaney was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and began her professional career in retail and modelling.
Her love for sailing came when she attended sessions at a local community centre at Alki Beach.
But it wasn’t until she wanted to pursue a career on the waters did she complete winters in the Caribbean and summers in Croatia and Greece.
The new stew secured her first yachting job in San Francisco where she became an instructor at a yacht club.
Delaney’s first venture aboard was on a 88ft. Gaff-rigged schooner, also known as a training shift, where she learnt more about her profession.
Next, she worked on a flotilla skipper in the Mediterranean and once she completed her degree in media studies, she worked on a motor yacht in Florida.
She now lives in Hawaii where she is trying to secure her 200 ton Captain license so she can man a vessel of greater proportions.
I never really touched the interior
Speaking of getting into her career, Delaney said: ” I love learning how to get people to do what I want.
“The best thing that happened because of Berkeley wasn’t actually school-related, but I joined the sailing team and had a really good time.
“I never really touched the interior because it was a lower level of charter that we wouldn’t do the beds every day or anything like that,” she explained of previous roles.
“But definitely whatever it took to keep the guests happy. I’m willing to help wherever is needed,” she told Captain Sandy Yawn in her first episode.
The newcomer is active on social media, with more than 7,000 people following her on Instagram and 164 TikTok users following her on the video-sharing platform.
In her Instagram bio, she writes she is a “promoter of radical self-expression” and an “advocate for inclusion”.
Many of her posts are from her travels around the world, including shots taken in Hawaii, California and many more.
It is also clear the newcomer likes to party as she has booked to attend five major festivals in the coming year.
Why was Delaney cast in Below Deck Mediterranean?
Delaney was living in a hotel on standby when season six of Below Deck Mediterranean got underway in June.
She was living in quarantine as a result of the coronavirus pandemic so she was clear of any chance of infection when she was needed.
However, with an extra bed available aboard the Lady Michelle, Captain Sandy gave chief stew Kate the option to bring Delaney onboard.
After consulting her fellow team members, Kate agreed to newcomer Delaney joining as a stew and therefore, she was a member of the cast.
Below Deck Mediterranean season 6 continues Mondays on Bravo. Episodes are available a week earlier on Peacock.
