Coronation Street is rocked by a shock death next week as Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) and Roy Cropper (David Neilson) come to blows.

Evelyn calls in the café with Cerberus in upcoming scenes and Roy apologises for missing her birthday party and tells her about Carla Barlow’s (Alison King) problems.

When Evelyn's beloved pooch Cerberus later shows no interest in his tea, Evelyn is concerned.

With Cerberus sick, a concerned Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) insists they take him to the vets.

When the vet suggests food poisoning, a guilty Roy reveals he dropped an eccles cake in the café and fears poorly Cerberus may have eaten it.

Both angry and worried, Evelyn tells Roy that if anything happens to Cerberus, she’ll never forgive him.

The vet breaks the news to Evelyn that Cerberus is suffering from kidney failure.

With Evelyn branding the cafe a death trap, Roy tells Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) he’s getting rid of his phone as had he not been distracted, he would never have dropped the cake and Cerberus may still be alive.

Is this the end of Evelyn and Roy's friendship?

Elsewhere in Weatherfield, Peter Barlow’s (Chris Gascoyne) is stunned to find Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) in charge at the factory and accuses the staff of stabbing Carla in the back.

Stephen’s about to sign the American contract when Rufus appears and tells him to tear it up as he wants sole rights to Nippersnapper and if he doesn’t play ball, he’ll tell everyone how he’s been drugging Carla.

Picking up the hole punch, a furious Stephen approaches Rufus.

Stephen later lies to Sarah Barlow (Tina O'Brien), making out that the Americans have pulled out of the contract.

Peter visits Carla and drops the bombshell that the factory workers have voted to put Stephen in charge.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm
