Dancing On Ice: Faye Brookes set for win as she exposes advantage over rivals

Dancing on Ice: Faye Brookes announced as 2020 contestant

Faye, 33, played the character of Kate Connor on Coronation Street for four years before she the actress quit the role two years ago. In her first major television stint since leaving the ITV soap, the amateur skater will be performing on Dancing on Ice with professional skater Hamish Gaman and the pair are already hot favourites to win. With some of her former co-stars having already competed on the show, it seems their advice for her could mean the contestant secures her victory.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other publications, Faye spoke about the advice the likes of Sophie Webster star Brooke Vincent, 28, and Leanne Battersby actress Jane Danson, 42, have given her.

The former soap star said: “I don’t think I’ve had one person not want to wish me well, especially the Corrie girls who have possibly taken part in the show because there’s quite a few of them.

“They will know what it’s like to do the show and how hard it is and just the whole fact that it’s live every Sunday.

“Jane gave me the best advice because, like myself, she completely fell in love with ice skating,” the contestant explained.

“She’s kept it up ever since she left the show and she actually saw me at the rink,” the amateur skate added.

“[Jane] said to me just keep doing it and enjoy every second of your time there on the show because you just don’t know when it’s your last skate,” Faye continued.

So, having not one but several co-stars who have been in her shoes before, could the ammeter skater have the formula to win this year’s competition.

According to the latest odds from Coral bookmakers, it seems the former soap star is leading the charge and is on course to win.

At the moment, the actress stands at 5/2 to become champion, miles ahead of Emmerdale’s Joe-Warren Plant, 18, at 4/1.

Coral spokesperson Harry Aitkenhead added: “It’s Faye’s turn on the ice this weekend and we’re expecting fireworks.

“We think she’s the favourite to win Dancing on Ice 2021 and are looking forward to her first live skate,” he continued.

“We were impressed by Joe-Warren Plant, despite taking a tumble, and cut the odds on him into the 4-1 second favourite.”

With the likes of Joe edging ever closer to her chances of winning, the actress is feeling the pressure of performing this evening.

Faye is just one of six celebrities making their debut tonight after the first set of six performed last weekend and being one of the favourites to win has left her nervous ahead of her first skate.

The actress said: “It does put more pressure on. I’m very overwhelmed and grateful for people’s encouragement that I’m going to be the top favourite.

“But I think it could be anybody’s. The talent this year is insane. Watching on Sunday, I got nervous seeing how incredible everybody’s skates were.

“We’ll see what happens as anything can happen with this show,” she explained, downplaying her chances of securing the top spot to Manchester Evening News.

Although she has had a few bumps and scrapes from falling over, the soap star hasn’t suffered any injuries like her fellow competitors.

Faye continued to say: “We’re using our bodies in such a different way we’re being challenged like no other.

“And if you do have a tumble, you tend to fall like in a good way because adrenalin I think it gets you through.

“I’m making sure that I just take care of my body when I do have downtime so that for the next day, I’m prepared.”

Dancing on Ice continues tonight at 6pm on ITV.
