In upcoming scenes of the BBC soap, Kat’s (played by Jessie Wallace) loyalties will be tested when Phil (Steve McFadden) puts her in the awkward position of choosing between him and her family. It’s hinted the EastEnders favourites soon sort out their differences though, and with Phil forced to prove how much Kat means to him, could he soon be getting down on one knee?

The couple surprised EastEnders viewers when they got together earlier this year.

Both are long-term Walford residents with different histories, so fans have been surprised to see their relationship working relatively smoothly since it began.

Could they make it official in upcoming episodes?

Official BBC spoilers indicate Phil might have to accept the Slaters as family if he wants to remain with Kat.

In future scenes, Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) tells Eve Unwin (Heather Peace) she can stay with the Slaters as long as she wants – but they no longer have somewhere to live.

The family were notified they would be evicted by Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) and have since been trying to sort out their housing situation.

Stacey Slater’s (Lacey Turner) made a comeback to the Square recently after serving her prison sentence and has been determined to stop the eviction, to no avail.

With her three children possibly facing homelessness, the mother is desperate to find somewhere for the family to stay until they get a new home.

Next week, Phil arrives back from Portugal to chaos in his house.

Kat asks him if the family can live with him but he harshly tells her no.

The gangster isn’t known for being kind, but when it comes to Kat, he usually seems willing to show a nicer side and help out.

Will she be able to persuade him to let the Slaters move in temporarily?

Jean overhears the conversation between Kat and Phil.

She tells Kat she’s a good person for trying to help out, but they couldn’t mess up her relationship with Phil.

Later, Slater matriarch Jean has a word with Phil.

She orders him not to make Kat choose between him and her family.

As a Mitchell, Phil has always been big on family loyalty, so will he extend his standards to include Kat’s loved ones?

If so, it seems Phil is willing to go the extra mile in his relationship with Kat.

Seeing them as a serious couple, it’s possible he might ask her to marry him.

Will Kat say yes? She seems to love Phil, and if he helps out her family she’s bound to see him as someone she could be married to.

Phil also looks out for Kat’s children, and she has told him before how much she appreciates his involvement in their lives.

If the couple gets engaged, EastEnders fans can expect an explosive wedding.

Phil’s ex Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) is likely to have something to say about it, and both characters have their enemies on the Square.

With the annual drama-filled Christmas storylines approaching, could Phil and Kat be the next to endure a catastrophic Walford wedding?

EastEnders continues on Tuesday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
