Emmerdale fans scoff at horrendous socially distanced Mandy and Jimmy kiss
Emmerdale fans dubbed one kissing scene on Wednesday night as "horrendous," as Mandy Dingle and Jimmy King leaned in for a snog – without locking lips.
Sparks have been flying between the pair for weeks, but things reached a crescendo as Jimmy’s (Nick Miles) court date loomed, with Mandy (Lisa Riley) offering him support on the stand.
Before he went into the courthouse, Mandy and Jimmy sat on a bench outside, where she revealed she was going to testify in his favour.
Jimmy was overcome with gratitude and suddenly leaned in for a smooch – though they were seen suspended in the air, never actually kissing one another.
After the ad break, the camera showed Jimmy leaping back from Mandy’s face, the socially distanced kissing scene coming to an end.
Watching from home, viewers immediately picked up on the social distancing restrictions in place, finding comedy in the mechanics of the scene.
One said: "Socially distant attempts at kisses are horrendous."
A second weighed in: "Jimmy launching on Mandy is the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages!"
"Let's see the kiss, oh you're cutting to adverts," wrote a third, and a fourth added: "I liked how it showed they were about to kiss then cut to commercials maybe their partners weren't available to do the scenes."
As soon as Jimmy kissed Mandy, he issued a fumbled apology, saying: "I am so sorry…"
"Don't be," Mandy replied, trying her best to ease his anxiety.
"I’ve done it again, haven’t I. I’ve made a complete prawn of myself in front of you," Jimmy said, before asking: "Please can we just forget that happened?"
The bubble was burst by the arrival of Jimmy's wife Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler), who stormed over to the bench to summon her husband to the courtroom.
She immediately shunned Mandy, accusing the Dingle family of being in and out of the courts with their various scandals over the years.
Worried Mandy was administering legal advice to Jimmy, Nicola scolded: "He doesn't need any comedy advice from you."
How will Nicola feel when she learns they were locking lips?
Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra helping on Thursdays at 8pm.
