With the eighth series of Escape to the Chateau well underway and a new book about to be released, Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree joined Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary on This Morning to chat about their ventures. As they reflected on their time in France, Dick commented on how different his children looked compared to when the Channel 4 series began.

Introducing the couple to the show, Alison said: “Dick and Angel join us now. Good morning to both of you, I am so excited to meet you both!

“Honestly, I’m so excited because this is, I can’t think of anything better than a Sunday evening watching you two, just chilling out, watching you two in the chateau.

“I’m so glad it’s back, do you ever imagine it was going to last eight series, for me, I think it can go on forever!”

Laughing, Dick replied: “We had no idea when we made the first series it was a while before it came on TV, and we didn’t even know if anybody would watch it!

“I think that’s a huge part of it, but we’re just getting on, and it’s interesting when you watch the little trailer you showed there, Arthur and Dorothy!

“From the early days to Arthur’s nearly as big as mummy now!”

Angel remarked: “It’s a bit scary!’ as Dermot asked: “There’s a flip side to this, that eight series is wonderful, but did you ever imagine you’d still be doing up the chateau eight series down the line?”

“Thanks for the reminder Dermot,” Angel quipped. “You know we do get asked when it is going to be over, and my husband keeps asking me the same question!”

Dick continued: “The bottom line is, we had this rule, it didn’t last very long. Angela was not allowed to do anything twice until we did everything once.

“Okay, that was a really simple rule, but somehow we haven’t managed to get around yet, we haven’t managed to do it all once yet!”

Looking guilty after hearing her husband’s comments, Angel said: “He’s had this rule so when Dick would go away to work, I would be a bit naughty and repaint a room that I wasn’t meant to repaint.

“But we are getting there, we’re comfortable now, and this year we have seriously knuckled down, it’s been the second year without weddings.

“And it’s fine, we’ve done lots of lovely kinds of brides and couple management, and then next year is going to be the year of celebration and the hub.

“But this year is the year of dust and grime and me covering up and hoovering the carpets twice a day.”

Touching on their new book, Dick remarked: “Well actually the book writing we did over the spring period. It was wonderful, we loved it.”

Angel held their book up on screen and proudly said: “Ta-Da!”

Dick continued: “We had a ball writing it because we never agree about what happened, so we look at the photographs, look at the facts, and she’s telling me ‘No!’”

Angel interrupted: “I will go to any lengths to prove that I’m right, so however long it takes, babe!”

The pair made their return to viewers screens back in October with more family adventures and inspiring renovation projects.

Escape to the Chateau airs Sunday at 8pm on Channel 4.
