Gorka Marquez opens up on ‘difficulty’ working with Strictly finalist Maisie Smith
Strictly: Maisie Smith jokes about her ’struggle’ in training
Gorka Marquez and Maisie Smith will perform three routines tonight, in hope of impressing the judges and Strictly Come Dancing viewers. Since the show began back in October, fans of the show have seen how hard the EastEnders star has been working, desperate to prove her ability and dedication to dance and in the last couple of weeks, the scores she has been awarded have reflected her persevering attitude. But, for professional dancer Gorka, he has spoken to Express.co.uk about the “difficulty” he has had with Maisie in the training room.
Tonight, Maisie and Gorka will dance the Samba – which she performed in week one and scored 24 points – followed by a Show Dance and then the Quickstep – which they scored 29 points back in week six.
But how has training gone for the pair? Maisie said they had “been working their socks off”.
Gorka added: “Obviously it’s the last week, it’s the last push, I think everyone is feeling the nine weeks behind in the brain and bodies because it is the last week and the final everyone has an extra push.
“The dances [have been] going very well, the Samba and the Quickstep, we love both of them so it’s just like refresh them and polish little details to make them even better.

“With the Show dance, I absolutely love it, I love the song, I love the concept. I think the concept works so well for her personality, her character, she brings the happiness, the happy Maisie, which is beautiful to watch.
“It is full on, like lots of things going on there but it’s great,” the Spanish champion said.
The judges have said Maisie is a natural dancer – so it is difficult to keep pushing the standard of her performances each week?
Gorka explained: “Obviously, it’s difficult in every situation because every dancer is different, you have to focus on different aspects but when you have someone like her, it is is difficult but it’s very rewarding.
“It’s amazing to see what I create in my head and what I picture, then go into the studio and I say ‘I want this to look like this and look like that’ and with her, you can see it coming alive.
“It’s like when you have a picture of something you want to paint and you paint it and it comes alive, and it’s exactly what you want to see. With her, that happens and it’s sometimes even better.
“She’s such a talented girl, she is such a hard worker and commits to everything and puts so much effort into it.
“For me, it’s very rewarding so I’m very grateful and thankful to have her because she trusts me. It’s amazing,” he commented.

Fans of the show have blasted the judges for choosing the Samba – a noxiously difficult dance – for Maisie.
She told Express.co.uk about the pressure she was feeling to perform it well.
“I think I always put pressure on myself every week because this show goes so quick and you don’t have much time, I want to make the most of every performance, I want to leave on that stage as I possible can,” she said.
“His [Gorka] choreography is also so beautiful, I want to do it justice every week, I never want to let him down.”
Receiving eights across the board in week one was impressive, but for the final, eights are sometimes not good enough to prove to viewers you deserve to win.
“I don’t think the scores put on any pressure, I just think I want to do it so we can create the most magical dance,” Maisie
