Grand Army is an upcoming Netflix series which is loosely based on Slut: The Play by teacher and director Katie Cappiello. The series follows five students from different backgrounds who all attend the Grand Army High School in Brooklyn, New York. Who is in the cast of Grand Army?
Joey Del Marco – Odessa A’zion
Joey Del Marco is a junior from Stuyvesant Town who attends the high school in the series, which expands on the original work of Cappiello.
Each of the storylines in the series is based on the real-life encounters of some of her former students.
Joey is a 16-year old student who is sexually assaulted by three of her closest friends during a night out.
The series is told through the eyes of Joey and her friends, and critics have described the original work as ‘truthful, raw and immediate’.
Odessa A’zion plays the main character, and the American actress is best known for her roles in Nashville and Fam.
She is the daughter of actress Pamela Adlon and she started her career in the world of entertainment at a young age.
Dominique “Dom” Pierre – Odley Jean
Dom Pierre is a 17-year-old junior who comes from East New York, and she is known for being a caring friend and mentor at school.
In the series she is tasked with supporting her family, whilst being the first in her family to attend college, and she has the added pressure of asking her crush to prom.
Odley Jean who studied with teacher and playwright Capiello, is making her first appearance on TV in Grand Army.
On Instagram the star said: “Took my mom, sister, nephew and brother to see the Grand Army posters. Although it was hard getting a clear photo with these cats they couldn’t help but move around in happiness and excitement.
“When my mom noticed I wouldn’t budge about my dreams. She started giving me words of encouragement. Telling me that she can’t wait to see me on TV. Said she’d be happy even if it happened after her. But life had other plans. My dreams came true sooner than expected. And it feels so good to REPRESENT!!”
Siddhartha “Sid” Pakam – Amir Bageria
Sid Pakam is an 18-year-old senior student from Jackson Heights in Queens, and he has the pressure of living up to everyone’s expectations.
He comes from a traditional family who encourage him to be the best version of himself, and he is one of the brightest students.
He is also captain of the swim team, but all this is not enough for Sid who wants to be free.
Actor Amir Bageria is known for his roles in Degrassi: Next Class and Resolve.
Fans are already looking forward to the series, and Capiello told Entertainment Weekly: “It’s years of listening to my students talk, it’s years of going to bar and bat mitzvahs. It’s years of having kids call you because they don’t know how they’re going to afford school, and can you talk through that with them, and try to help them figure out a plan?”

Jayson Jackson – Maliq Johnson
Jayson Jackson is a 15-year-old sophomore student who lives in Spanish Harlem and his passion is for performing arts.
He is academically skilled but prefers to argue with his friend Owen over who is the best at playing jazz music on the saxophone.
Actor Maliq Johnson is known for his roles in Netflix’s When They See Us, Skin and Little Men.
The star is also a model and dancer according to his Instagram profile, and he spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the new series.
He said he felt young black men were very underrepresented in Hollywood and he was pleased the series portrayed young black men as musically talented and academically intelligent.
Leila Kwan Zimmer – Amalia Yoo
Leila Kwan Zimmer is a 14-year-old freshman student who lives on the Upper West Side and she was adopted from China.
Growing up with Jewish parents, she is trying to figure out exactly who she is in this giant world at Grand Army.
Amalia Yoo starred in the original play and she was keen to come back for the TV adaptation, praising Capiello for her work.
The actress has also starred in the short sci-fi film J Doe.
The hard-hitting series explores race, sexuality, and it has already attracted plenty of attention.
Grand Army airs on Netflix on October 16
