Love Island’s dumped Islander Hugo Hammond left his partner Amy Day utterly stunned when he appeared to snub her during his exit interview in tonight’s instalment.

In the biggest show dumping yet, PE teacher Hugo, 24, actress Amy, 25, model Clarisse Juliette, 24, and engineer Sam Jackson, 23, were all told to say their goodbyes.

While Hugo and Amy have had their struggles to connect over the last few days, and viewers were left cringing when he tried to fist bump Jake after the kissing challenge, no one expected the original Islander to all but pie the girl he was coupled up with right in front of her.

“I’m not going to lie my Love Island journey has been tragic,” Hugo declared to the camera, as Surrey-based Amy’s jaw dropped open and her eyes opened wide.

Refusing to acknowledge Amy’s reaction to his blunt words about the future, Hugo went even further and mentioned his future – without Amy.

“I’m looking forward to what's in store for Mr Hammond,” the star said, and viewers were gobsmacked.

“Tragic?! Hugo mate she’s right beside you #loveisland,” one person exclaimed.

Another fan guessed: “Hugo deffo ended it with Amy #LoveIsland."

“poor amy not hugo calling his time tragic BYE #LoveIsland,” a third viewer said, as many others really felt for the dumped brunette too.

A fourth raged: “Hugo is soooo rude to Amy. Don’t deserve her #LoveIsland #LoveIslandUK.”

While a fifth admitted they just “couldn’t believe” what Hugo had said with Amy stood right next to him.

Others were convinced Hugo had thought the Islanders were going to save him.

One viewer guessed the teacher hadn’t been expecting the result, which saw Faye Winter, 26, reveal they had chosen to save Tyler Cruickshank, also 26.

At one point during the Islander’s speech, Hugo even started grinning – suggesting he thought his place within the villa was in the bag.

Meanwhile, the boys opted to save Mary Bedford, 22, who has been having chemistry with tattooed hunk Dale Mehmet, 24, since the return from Casa Amor.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox
