Phillip Schofield admits he ‘can’t remember’ much of NTAs after ‘letting loose’

This Morning star Phillip Schofield has admitted he "can’t remember" much of his National Television Awards speech – after fans accused him of "hogging the mic".

Phillip took to the stage along with Holly Willoughby, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford – but Ruth and her hubby were unable to get much of a word in.

The daytime telly programme scooped a coveted gong for Best Daytime Show at this year’s NTAs, with Schofe’s presenting pal Holly Willoughby also nominated for the Best TV Presenter award, though she lost out to Ant and Dec.

But now Phil has opened up about his memories of the night he "let loose" at the NTAs, issuing the candid admission on Monday’s instalment of This Morning.

Holly opened up on Monday during a discussion about the benefits of letting your hair down, asking Dr Steele: "The typical adult needs to let loose four times a month, but most can’t remember doing so?

"So, it’s good to go out and have a bit of a blowout? Doctor’s orders?"

The doctor confirmed: "It was a study of 2,000 people and the results were that you need to let your hair down four times a month."

He added: "Not really very exciting scientific research, but interesting!"

Phillip then chipped in with a quip: "Well, it’s good to know that it comes with doctor’s orders, which means that last Thursday actually was a healthy thing!"

Holly responded: "Except that you couldn’t remember that bit!"

And Schofe confessed: "There’s a lot I can’t remember."

An emotional Phillip accepted the award on the night, stepping up to the mic to say: "We are always massively, massively proud of This Morning and our family and our team.

"What was amazing for us was, every single day, because of the brilliance of ITV, we could stay on air and we could be there.

"We felt like we were everyone's comfort blankets, but for all of us, you were our comfort blankets too."

He passed the microphone to Holly to make a speech – before Eamonn and Ruth could get a word in.

There came an outpouring of criticism for Phillip on social media after he "hogged the mic" last Thursday, with one fan penning: "I really don’t know why @Schofe @HollyWills didn’t let [Ruth and Eamonn] talk on the mic! #Shameful! All I saw was Phil and Holly forgetting there is others on This Morning!"

"Why do Eamonn or Ruth never get to speak when This Morning wins an award? It's them we voted for!" another ranted.
