Spoilers: EastEnders boss reveals Stacey return drama

EastEnders’ return is almost upon us — as is the return of Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner), who is set to make an equally powerful comeback.

Viewers will remember that Stacey hightailed it out of Walford after hitting Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) over the head with a wrench.

Husband Martin (James Bye) was desperate to get Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) to see sense and allow her to return, and thus the two men forged an alliance.

However, Martin was ultimately determined to protect his wife, and therefore told her that he was sleeping with Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) in an effort to keep her away from Albert Square — a statement which resulted in them splitting up.

During lockdown, Martin and Ruby (Louisa Lytton) have seemingly started seeing one another, but they’d better be prepared for quite the confrontation, as Stacey will make a huge return once the soap is back on air.

Executive Producer Jon Sen told Metro.co.uk: ‘The big return is Stacey. We have been waiting for her return. Lacey is amazing — she’s part of EastEnders history. We have missed her not being on-screen and having that energy as part of the Slaters.

‘The first two weeks we tease a little mystery. “Where is Stacey? Are all these things going on in the Square anything to do with her?” and then she comes back with a bang!

‘You get fantastic Ruby versus Stacey kind of scenes. Can’t wait to find out what Stacey does when she discovers what’s been going on with Ruby and Martin.

‘As a return, that’s a big moment.’

EastEnders returns Monday, September 7 at 8:05pm on BBC One.
