Strictly sparks uproar as viewers slam judges over uncomfortable Adam Peaty comments

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Adam Peaty performed the Samba on Saturday night with partner Katya Jones. After performing a spectacular routine accompanied with double denim and tight jeans, the judges left viewers feeling uncomfortable over the comments they were giving.

Taking to Twitter to express their feelings towards some of the comments made by the judges, Cameron Lee wrote: “If a straight male judge spoke to a female contestant the way Craig, Shirley and Motsi do, there’d be uproar.”

Jade Hunt added: “Couldn’t agree more! Tess included it’s so uncomfortable to watch.

“If they give him a high mark over the tight jeans and clunky routing, I’m going to be fuming #Strictly.”

Fiona Lapham commented: “I get a little uncomfortable when the judges droll all over the male contestants.

“If it was men doing it to a female, it would be very different, wouldn’t it… #Strictly.”

After finishing their dance, Adam and Katya joined Tess Daly and the judges to receive their comments on the performance.

Tess commented: “Phew, I’ve got faith in those hips of yours, right focus.”

She handed over to Anton Du Beke for his opinion, who remarked: “Oh, I’m absolutely delighted you have come to me on this first.

“I think the Samba is sort of ridiculous quite frankly in life, this was amazing, but I don’t really know why, there was a lot about it that made me go twitchy.

“I think it’s turned out that I rather liked it,” he explained, with Katya and Adam shouting with joy.

Next was Craig Revel Horwood, who, according to Tess, had a “front-row seat to those hips”.

He replied: “I did darling, and they made me twitch too. I made myself laugh darling, I could see you working the technique, I could see that and really we shouldn’t see the technique working.

“But I commend you for that, but you had bounce and lovely stationary samba well done, really,” he explained.

Motsi Mabuse gave some constructive criticism without commenting on his “gyrating” hips or his tight trousers.

Finally, it was head judge Shirley Ballas who gave her comments, to which Tess asked: “Would you Shirley?”

Giggling, she replied: “Well, I thought it was absolutely fantastic in comparison to your Rumba, but you managed to stay in the pocket of the music.

“Your grounded, you listened to the music, I’m absolutely bowled over, I’m flawed, well done,” she described.

Before sending them on their way to find out their scores with Claudia Winkleman, Tess commented: “Shirley’s floored, everyone is twitching.”

The pair celebrated as they walked up the stairs, shouting and screaming at the audience members before speaking to Claudia about how they felt.

The scores came in with Craig, Motsi and Anton awarding them a seven and Shirley giving a score of eight, totalling to 29 points.
