The Handmaid’s Tale season four has finished airing on Hulu in the US and it has since made its way to Channel 4 in the UK. The season four finale included a huge twist as June Osborne (played by Elisabeth Moss) experienced a taste for blood. The showrunner, Bruce Miller, has revealed how Serena Joy (Yvonne Strzechowski) will feel about Fred’s (Joseph Fiennes) death.

The Handmaid’s Tale season four finale set the story up nicely for season five, with Serena Joy yet to discover Fred’s tragic fate.
June and the rest of the handmaids killed Fred and it seemed like a long time coming to loyal fans of the series.
In June’s usual fashion, she informed Serena Joy of her beloved’s death by posting his severed finger bearing his wedding ring to her cell.
Serena was waiting to speak to Fred in a virtual chat, and her reaction to the news of his death is yet to be shown.
Miller told The Hollywood Reporter that Serena’s reaction may not be what fans expect.
He said: “She wants the future to be better for her coming son and she absolutely wants to be that child’s mother, and she’s not really in a position to get that yet.
“Paired with that now is going to be a white-hot fever of revenge. Even though Serena didn’t like Fred and they have a complicated relationship, it’s now a June-Serena thing.
“She will want to find a way to metaphorically or realistically get June for this. June hit her house and she wants to hit her back.
“There’s that absolute toe-to-toe, woman-to-woman venom, but also, what is the relationship between two women where one killed the other’s abuser? It’s complicated.”
With this in mind, Serena may not forgive June, but she may have seen Fred’s death as a convenient move.
However, with Fred now out of the picture, Serena will remain in prison as her ‘get out of jail free’ card has been taken away.
Season five will see Serena try and use Fred’s death to her advantage as she has been known to manipulate him in the past.
June is already one-up on Serena and she will want to level the playing field in some way.
Both women have respect for each other’s strength and resilience, and the cat and mouse game between them has an air of excitement.
There is a chance June will get to Serena Joy first, leaving the latter feeling defeated.
Moss has teased that June wants proper revenge on Serena before the series is out.
She is at the top of her list of main priorities, as well as saving those who remain close to her.
At this moment in time, fans do not know whether season five will be the final season, so it could be the most dramatic yet.
It is possible that season five will see the ultimate showdown between June and Serena Joy, as there can only be one winner.
Fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on the fourth season, with one saying: “I’m watching handmaid’s tale and I hate Fred and Serena so much omfg.”
Another said: “I loved every minute of the last episode of handmaid’s tale OMGG, the way June planned everything and k*lled Fred in the woods the same way she was captured !!!! Now I want Serena to end up as an handmaid and suffer to death !!!.” [Sic]
A third added: “Rewatched all of Handmaid’s Tale and while I am 1000% satisfied with how season 4 ended, I can’t wait to see what happens to Serena in season 5.”
Actress Strahovski is on Instagram and she shocked fans with a new look, posting a photo of herself with a pixie-style haircut.
She captioned the photo: “Short hair, don’t care” and fans went on to compliment the new hairstyle.
One said: “I love it so much”, while another added: “Wow, so beautiful.”
The Handmaid’s Tale will return with season 5.
