After seeing off their competition, Monday’s Tipping saw played Linzi and Dom face off for a chance to take on the ITV quiz show’s famous machine in the hopes of pocketing some cash. However, to do so, both would have to best the other and answer as many of host Ben Shephard’s brainteasers correctly in exchange for counters to plunge into the machine. But when the Good Morning Britain star threw up a question about Greek Iliad, Homer, he struggled to stifle his laughter as Linzi and Dom got the wrong idea.
With a spot in the final up for grabs, this slip-up came as part of one of Dom’s final questions.
Ben asked Dom: “In his epic poems, Homer often refers to nectar as the drink of the gods and which other substance as their food?”
Dom mused about the possible answers but instead of passing over to Linzi to see if she knew the answer, the Tipping Point player decided to go for it.
“Doughnuts,” Dom answered, prompting a huge smirk to appear on Ben’s face.
However, despite Ben’s attempts not to burst into hysterics, Linzi too was on the wrong page as she agreed she would’ve said doughnuts if Dom had passed it over.
Still trying not to laugh, Ben eventually said to the pair he was going to read the question again to see if they could see their error.
And the penny soon dropped for Dom who realised he had confused Homer with the father character from the long-running animated sitcom The Simpsons.
Once Linzi too realised, she was left with her head in her hands while Ben keeled over in laughter at the slip-up.
Ben soon revealed the correct answer was “ambrosia”, much to the duo’s blushes.
And Ben wasn’t alone as it didn’t take long for Tipping Point viewers at home to express their disbelief.
“DOUGHNUTS??? Shoot me now, please. #tippingpoint,” Steve said on Twitter while Ian weighed in: “Pmsl…Homer Simpson’s epic poems #tippingpoint.” (Sic)
Robert typed in shock: “Doughnuts? They’re f*****g serious too #tippingpoint.”
While Daz saw the funny side, adding: “This is comedy gold. Donuts??? #TippingPoint.”

And @ActualJez weighed in: “I literally can’t breathe. That Homer gaffe is the funniest thing I’ve ever witnessed on #tippingpoint.”
Eventually, Ben regained his composure and Dom and Linzi moved on with their head to head, but only one would make it to the final.
Luckily for Linzi, it was her who made it to the last round and with the opportunity to win some cash.
Having accumulated £1,650, she saw off Dom after his Homer error and took on the machine.
Linzi won £2,800 in the end and refused Ben’s offer of a trade for three final counters.
And it proved to be the correct choice as the jackpot counter failed to budge off the bottom shelf.
Tipping Point airs weekdays at 4pm on ITV.
