Who are Britney Spears’ kids and where are they now? – The Sun
BRITNEY Spears has endured a rough time over the past few years – currently under the conservatorship of her father Jamie, who has been granted control over her personal and business affairs.
Her former partner, Kevin Federline, has 70 percent custody of both children while the Stronger singer, who has recently requested to talk about her conservatorship in court for the first time, gets 30 percent unsupervised custodial rights, TMZ reports.
How many kids does Britney have and how old are they?
Sean is 15 years old.
His father is Kevin Federline, one of Britney's former backup dancers.
Britney and Kevin met in 2004 and after three months of dating, the pair announced their engagement in July 2004 before getting married in September in Studio City, California.
The following year, Britney’s first son Sean was born.
At barely a year old, Sean had already appeared in the TV mini-series Britney & Kevin: Chaotic.
Jayden was born in September 2006 and is now 14 years old.
Britney and Kevin's relationship ended just a few months after Jayden was born.
Britney filed for divorce from the former dancer in November 2006.
The split was settled in March 2007.
In March 2020, Jayden shared private details about the family on an Instagram Live – revealing that Britney apparently might quit music while lashing out at his granddad Jamie.
Why did Britney Spears lose custody of her kids?
Britney previously lost custody of the two boys in 2007 after a breakdown which saw the distressed star shave her own head before attacking a photographer's car with an umbrella.
A judge granted full custody to Federline, much to Britney's distress.
In 2008, Britney was then arrested after locking herself in a bathroom with Jayden, who was one-year-old at the time.
The drama ended with Britney being stretchered away from her home in an ambulance after a four-hour standoff.
The former pair subsequently agreed on a shared 50-50 custody of their boys.
But Britney lost more visitation rights after Britney and Kevin's son Sean Preston had an altercation with his grandfather Jamie.
Federline obtained a restraining order against his former father-in-law after Kevin accused Jamie of laying hands on the couple's 13-year-old son.
Britney's former partner now has 70 percent custody of both children while the Stronger singer gets 30 percent of unsupervised custodial rights, according to reports.
What does Britney pay Kevin Federline in child support?
Britney has been paying her former partner Kevin $20,000 a month in child support as well as their children’s tuition and school costs, TMZ reports.
She has also been paying for their clothing, extracurricular activities, and many other expenses to the tune of nearly $35,000 per month.
In 2018, Kevin asked Britney to increase her money for child support from $20,000 to $60,000 a month, citing that "the kids are older and the financial circumstances of the parties are significantly different than when the child support was originally resolved."
Britney was also ordered to pay K-Fed $100,000 to cover his legal fees and expenses during their negotiations, the Blast reports.
When were her lawyer and father appointed as her conservators?
A conservatorship is a form of legal guardianship.
It grants a chosen individual full authority over another's life and assets.
The conservator typically holds the same rights and responsibilities as a parent would over a child.
It is typically enacted for individuals who are incapable of making their own decisions.
Britney's conservatorship was implemented in 2008 after the star had a series of public meltdowns.
This means that Britney currently has no legal control over her estate or financial and personal assets as those rights were granted to her father and a lawyer 12 years ago.
It had been extended until August 2020 according to court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, with temporary conservator Jodi Montgomery to stay on in the role.
On August 19 this was considered in court as Britney no longer wants her father to remain her conservator, but her conservatorship was ruled to stay the same.
Britney's lawyer reportedly now has until September 18 to petition against this.
Montgomery is reported to be Britney's long-time care manager.
