Will Young revealed as The Masked Singer's Lionfish – as huge clues it was the Pop Idol star are revealed

WILL Young has been revealed as The Masked Singer's Lionfish.

Fans of the ITV show were convinced it was the 42-year-old after a number of clues pointed towards him, including references to his time on Pop Idol in 2002.

His rendition of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You wasn't enough to stay in the competition as he landed himself in the bottom two.

The singer went up against Firework for the final performance, but judges Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan decided to send him home.

When Will took his mask off, he confessed: "I was most concerned about you Jonathan, noticing my voice. It's really hard to try and disguise it."

The third series of the Masked Singer returned to our screens last week and fans have been busy trying to figure out which celebs are behind the masks.

Viewers already had an inkling that it was Will because of a number of Pop Idol references in Lionfish's VT.

It pointed out their "late start" in their career and when he clapped back at judge Simon Cowell's critique.

On Saturday night's instalment of the programme, a song that Will performed back in 2002 started playing when Lionfish went off stage.

One fan pointed out on Twitter: "Beyond the sea playing as Lionfish goes off has to be a clue too! Will Young sang Beyond the sea on Pop Idol!"

They also made reference to Lionfish being a feminist.

Another said: "Lionfish is Will Young surely? He studied women's studies and is a feminist?"

"Strong females… will young did an album of covers of womens song. Definitely him," a third added.

To further add to their speculation, Lionfish confessed that they "know how to make a very good pointe" and their "fins have made waves by spinning discs".

A fourth viewer tweeted: "Will Young took ballet classes 'pointe' and spins discs on BBC Radio 2 from time to time."

A sixth said: "That fish is Will Young – he loves ballet pointe."

Other clues that pointed towards Will Young were references to his stint on E4's Skins and starring in the musical Cabaret.
