Amazon’s Jeff Bezos splashes £62MILLION on Manhattan 'mega-home' with 12 bedrooms and golf simulator despite world’s most expensive divorce

JEFF Bezos has splashed an eye-watering £62million for a “mega home” in Manhattan, complete with 12 bedrooms and a gold simulator.

The chief executive of Amazon, 55, is said to have closed the deal on Tuesday for a three-floor penthouse apartment and the two units directly below it, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Bezos made the purchase after his divorce was finalised in April from his wife of 25 years MacKenzie Tuttle.

The head of the popular online retailer has now been linked to Lauren Sanchez and the pair were seen in Key West earlier this week.

Bezos, who is worth an estimated $106billion, according to Bloomberg Billionaire's Index, is said to have been looking for a new home in New York “for months”.

He already owns a property overlooking Central Park as well as other properties in California, Texas, Washington state and Washington DC.

The new property at 212 Fifth Avenue covers a combined 17,000-square feet and as well as having 12 bedrooms the building comes with a gym, golf simulator, games room and home cinema.

Appraiser Jonathan Miller said it was the second largest property deal closed this year in New York, second only to hedge funder Ken Griffin who forked out $240m (£189m) for a penthouse at 220 Central Park South.

Bezos is still the world's richest man even after his divorce.

The Amazon founder previously had a 16 per cent stake in Amazon but now has given his ex-wife four per cent.

The 16 per cent stake in the online giant was worth more than $140billion.

The divorce deal worth $35bn will see Bezos retain a 12 per cent stake which is worth a staggering $100billion.

This means he is still $4bn richer than Bill Gates.

MacKenzie's four percent stake is worth $35billion which will make her the third richest woman in the world.

The divorce will see the Amazon founder also take his wife's stock in the Washington Post and Blue Origin along with her voting rights.

Bezos and his wife were married for 25 years before they announced their separation in January.

Shortly after the couple announced on Twitter they were separating it emerged Bezos was seeing former TV anchor Lauren Sanchez.

One of her friend’s said she and Bezos were “madly in love” and even planned to tie the knot after they both get divorced.

Sources said their relationship did not start until their marriages had ended.

The $35bn divorce

Jeff and Mackenzie Bezos got hitched in 1993 and were married for 25 years.

The 49-year-old vowed to give away at least half of her £28.8billion fortune.

She said: “I have a disproportionate amount of money to share.”

The divorce Jeff gave MacKenzie a four per cent share in Amazon, woth $35bn (£28.8bn).

The stake makes her the hird richest woman in the world.

The divorce will see the Amazon founder also take his wife's stock in the Washington Post and Blue Origin along with her voting rights.

Jeff Bezos accused a US magazine of trying to blackmail him after they threatened to publish explicit nude photos of the businessman and his mistress.

In an extraordinary public statement, the Amazon billionaire said the alleged threat was an attempt to stop his investigation into how messages between himself and Lauren Sanchez were first leaked to The National Enquirer

Intimate details of the couple's affair were published in the Enquirer in January – just hours after Bezos announced he and his wife MacKenzie were getting a divorce.
