Harry ‘rewriting history’ by claiming Meghan suggested therapy, claims expert

A royal commentator has sarcastically accused Harry and Meghan of "rewriting history" over Prince William's attempts to help his brother with his mental health.

Daniela Elser claimed the couple must be suffering from "amnesia" after missing out that it was the Duke of Cambridge who suggested therapy for Harry and not his wife Meghan.

Writing in news.com.au, she said: "A strange pattern has emerged in what Meghan and Harry say. Either they’ve got amnesia or they’re trying to rewrite what happened."

Before Harry and Meghan quit the firm for a lucrative life in the US, he told journalist Bryony Gordon that he had been “very close to a complete breakdown on numerous occasions”.

Speaking in 2017, months after he started going out with the former Suits actress, he said his older brother William had tried to persuade him to seek help.

His revelations emerged around the time royal biographer Angela Levin, who spent a year with the former army captain for her book Harry: Conversations With The Prince, also interviewed him about his decision to seek help.

She wrote that she “asked him, ‘Are you going because Meghan suggested it, has she persuaded you,’ and he said, ‘Absolutely not, she had nothing to do with it, it was William.’”

Four years later, Harry this month told US podcast host Dax Shepard: "It was a conversation I had with my now-wife.

“She saw it straight away. She could tell that I was hurting and that some of the stuff that was out of my control was making me really angry and would make my blood boil.”

Referencing Harry's other claims of not being able to ride on a bike with his father Prince Charles, Ms Elser wrote: "This is not the only instance certain facts seem to have somehow gotten lost somewhere in the mix.

"For some reason, members of the house of Windsor suffer from a particular form of amnesia when it comes to bikes.

"In 1995 Diana, Princess of Wales pointedly took aim at other more relaxed European royal houses during her infamous Panorama interview saying she was against royalty 'riding round [on] bicycles', despite the fact that her very own husband Prince Charles had over the years been repeatedly photographed pedalling away to his heart’s content.

"Like Diana, her son Prince Harry seems to have a hard time recollecting all those good times on two-wheels."

She also took aim at Meghan's claims in her bombshell Oprah tell-all where she said: “Well, I didn’t do any research about what [being a royal] would mean.”

Ms Elser wrote that Meghan’s former childhood friend Ninaki Priddy said in 2017: “I know the royal family was something she found fascinating.

"She had one of Princess Diana’s books [Diana: Her True Story] on her bookshelf.”

The royal expert concluded: "In this strange, hurly burly world at least there is one constant: Harry and his curious relationship with consistency. "

Harry's representative has been contacted for comment.
