Husky with face stuck in bone has to be freed with saw in warning to dog owners
An unfortunate dog had to have a bone cut from its face with a circular saw after it was given one to gnaw on as a treat.
In a video, uploaded on TikTok by registered vet tech Peter on February 7, a two-year-old husky mix is lying on the operating table as a saw is brought down on the bone wedged over his muzzle.
The saw is a vibrating one, similar to the ones used by medics to remove plaster casts, so it wouldn't cut the pooch if it slips.
Peter, based in California, US, told Daily Star: "This is a common thing seen with this type of bone pets will lick the inside and wedge the lower jaw in and it becomes stuck.
"Sometimes it will need to be cut using a saw like this, we used a cast saw that doesn’t spin but vibrates very fast to cut, it is safer this way for the pet.
"Once removed the pet is woken from sedation and goes home."
The vet tech cuts through the bone on both sides, before snapping it off and finally freeing the poor mutt's face.
Peter told Daily Star it is "very common" for bones like this to get stuck on dogs' jaws and it stops them from eating and drinking which can be dangerous.
He warned that "treats like this should always be given under supervision".
The video was watched more than 50 million times by animal lovers on TikTok, with many of them discussing the apparent dangers of bones – and others saying their dogs had been stuck the same way.
One person commented: "My dog had this happen and we got rid of all her bones.
"She found one hidden a week later and did it again."
Another person said: "This is why I don’t give my dogs this stuff."
"I really wish the market would take away these bone and rawhide bones, they’re so dangerous," blasted another fan.
Sharing their own sad tale, another user said: "Unfortunately, we didn’t know not to give our dog those kinds of bones, $1,200 (£866) later we don’t make the mistake again."
Piers for PM? Have your say!
The Daily Star has projected an image of Piers Morgan onto the Houses of Parliament – and we’re asking you are we ready for #PMFORPM?
Last week the Daily Star jokingly asked the question on nobody’s lips: Would PM be a better PM than our current PM?
And it seems we may have inadvertently unleashed a monster. Shy and retiring Piers – no stranger to holding our politicians to account on Good Morning Britain – leapt on the idea.
His odds were slashed from 500/1 to just 20/1 in a single day.
So, are you Team Piers or Team Bozo? Take part in our survey!
Another vet commenting on the video said it was "reason 1000 why bones are bad for dogs".
The vet who uploaded the video gave fans an update on the pooch's condition and said the pet is "doing great now at home" and hopefully run into trouble again any time soon.
Meanwhile, another cheeky dog was caught on video pretending to be dead while out on a walk, with her owner saying she does the trick every time to try and avoid going home.
And a dog's hilarious reaction to seeing squirrels on TV left viewers crying with laughter.
