Russian wife who urged husband to ‘rape in Ukraine’ on international wanted list

The wife of a Russian soldier who urged her husband to rape Ukrainian women has been placed on an international wanted list.

Back in April, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) released a clip from an intercepted phone call between the couple, who were later identified as Roman Bykovsky and his wife Olga Bykovskaya.

In it, the woman believed to be Olga says: "So yeah, do it over there. Ukrainian women there. Rape them. Yeah. Don't tell me anything, understand."

He replies: "So I should rape and not tell you anything."

"Yes, so that I wouldn't know anything," she says before the pair both laugh.

"Can I really?" he asks again. She then says: "Yeah, I allow you. Just use protection."

Olga has now reportedly been placed on state, interstate and international wanted lists by the Ukrainian authorities.

The SBU launched a probe into the 30-second audio clip as soon as it came to light and are now said to have completed the pre-trial investigation.

The wife faces up to 12 years behind bars as her actions were found to violate the Geneva Convention – specifically Article 27.2 of the Convention on the Protection of the Civilian Population in Time of War.

Roman and Olga were identified by investigative journalists at Radio Liberty working with Ukrainian law enforcement.

The two phone numbers were found to be linked to two accounts on Russia's VKontakte social network, belonging to the couple.

Although Roman's account was private, investigators found images of him in military uniform on the accounts of his friends and family.

Olga's account was open. Investigators worked out the pair had a child together and moved to the Russian occupied Crimea peninsula, approximately around 2018, with Roman serving in the army.
