Stunning double rainbow breaks through stormy clouds as wet weather continues

A DOUBLE rainbow arches over stormy clouds — as a mild start to yesterday turned into another washout for many.

The stunning display, produced when a raindrop reflects sunlight twice, was seen over the River Ouse in Cambs.

Swimmers in Brighton made the most of the milder temperatures early yesterday, but thunderous Threedownpours later hit vast swathes of the nation – including Birmingham .

Britain has already topped the 2.7in rainfall average for May and another 4in is due over the next two days.

Forecasters say the rain will continue for the rest of the month before more settled weather returns in June.

But temperatures will still only be around the 20C average mark, with no heatwaves on the horizon.
